Skills are a representation of how good the PC is at a given activity. Some events will use your skill level to determine success or failure. Each skill has one or more associated attributes. Half of the total skill level comes from the PC's 'ranks' in the skill and half from the associated attributes. How much of each attribute affects each skill varies from skill to skill.
The visible level in a skill will vary between 0-100.
Skill XP
Skills are typically improved by being trained in them (eg. the [[Volleyball]] skill is improved by taking volleyball lessons at the [[Community Center]]), although some of the methods of a training skills are gated (ie. they are ineffective if the PC is too skilled). You can sometimes improve skills by using them, but this is a bit hit and miss. For example, you can gain [[Football]] XP by playing football with the jocks, but not by playing football with [[Kolka]] and his friends.
If the PC gains XP in a skill, the attributes associated with that skill will also gain a small amount of XP. This bonus XP is equal to 20% of the skill XP and is calculated at midnight each day.
For example, if the PC gains 5xp in the Jabs skill over the course of a day, at midnight she will receive 1xp for both Strength and Agility.
Note that if the PC does not gain any XP in a skill for an extended period of time it will eventually [[Degradation|degrade]].
