The Milli Vanilli version of "Girl You Know It's True", recorded at Frank Farian's FAR studios in Rosbach, Germany in the spring of 1988, started with only a drum track and two female vocalists, American twin sisters Linda Rocco and Jodie Rocco, who lived in Germany. Farian asked the girls to listen to the Numarx version so they would know what to sing. The record was on a turntable in the studio and Farian played the vocal parts for the girls. There was only the drum track to follow, making the Rocco twins the first vocals on the track.[citation needed][clarification needed]

25 years ago, an album was released that over 6 million people bought in the U.S. alone. Even more in Canada! It would stand to reason that some of those people *liked* the songs on that album. At least a few.

"What I'm looking for are *stars*!" Leonine Studios has revealed a trailer for a German movie called Girl You Know It's True, about the infamous duo known as Milli Vanilli, referencing one of their biggest tracks. Paramount+ is also releasing their own official Milli Vanilli doc this fall - it's streaming next week on their platform (in the US only). This movie is a fictionalized biopic version of their story. Dancers Pilatus & Morvan rise to fame in the late 80s and become stars with No.1 hits, even winning a Grammy. However, the duo never sang a word in their songs, always lip syncing. When the truth is finally revealed, they stare into the abyss while the world witnesses one of the biggest scandals in music history. Starring Tijan Njie as Rob & Elan Ben Ali as Fab, plus Matthias Schweighfer as their sketchy record producer Frank Farian. This is a German movie because Rob and Fab met and lived in Munich, and their "Milli Vanilli" fame started in Munich in the 80s with Farian. They eventually became globally recognized stars, of course. Not sure why they're making a comeback in 2023 / 2024 with this doc + movie, but why not! "We are brothers. Forever."

And people weren't nearly as hard on people like C+C Music Factory, etc using Martha Wash's voice (when she was often told she was recording a demo or a guide vocal), then using some model in the video. Wash went thru hell to get credit and get paid. But people still balk at Rob & Fab. Black Box was sued by Wash and the late Loletta Ho

Go back further, and David Cole from C+C gave a song to the group Seduction (You're My One And Only True Love) with Martha's vocals on it (as a demo) and put Seduction in as the background. He altered her a voice a bit so it was unrecognizable (read: side step paying for her talent). It was a huge hit, and she sued. They reached an out of court settlement.

Cole pulled the same shit again with C+C.

Remember, Seduction, Black Box, and C+C were all within a year or two's time. Cole just used Wash like a fucking vocal vending machine. No one said that much about it. But everyone will drag Rob & Fab out as the proverbial whipping boys.

Even Sheryl Crow says she sang on a lot of people's music that you'd know.

I agree that they knew what they were doing, I can feel empathy for the backlash but no sympathy for their experiences of it. This dodgy stuff was endemic at the time in commercial music and SOMEONE had to pay the piper for the lies, fraudulent behavior and general frontin' of this industry - and like anyone caught with their hand in the cookie jar, Milli Villainy were quick to play victim when they realised the well was drying up, so they did deserve it to some degree. And don't try to tell me otherwise because girl you know it's, girl you know it's, girl you know it's e24fc04721
