Hi, I'm Giorgia! Iām an PhD student in Linguistics at the University of Oregon and a proud grantee of the Fulbright Foreign Student Program.
My academic journey has led me to focus on North American dialectology, especially rural and Southern U.S. varieties. My research lies at the intersection of sociolinguistics, dialectology, and folk linguistics. I'm especially interested in how language variation both reflects and reinforces social identity, focusing on underrepresented and stigmatized communities.
What excites me most is shining a light on underrepresented and often stigmatized communities, exploring the richness of their linguistic diversity, and challenging the stereotypes tied to the way they speak.
As a Graduate Employee, Iām looking forward to balancing research and teaching, and to sharing my passion for language both in the classroom and beyond.
