【Handline Fishing】
What is it?
One of the oldest fishing methods known and is still commonly used amongst fishermen in Indonesia.
Baited hooks are attached to the fishing line and with jigging movement pelagic fish like tuna will be attracted to eat the baits. Once the fish is hooked, the line is then hauled and the fish removed. When handled correctly, the catch is of very high quality as the fish is still alive when brought aboard.
A sustainable fishing practice
Hand line fishing is considered an environmental friendly method as it produces lowest by-catch (unintended catch that got caught and discarded), inflicts minimal injury to the fish, and causes minimal damage to the marine ecosystem. It is a responsible fishing method that will help to recover the fast diminishing marine resources in Indonesia.
Working and supporting the local fishing communities
We work closely with local fishing communities around Indonesian archipelago not only in terms of buying fish from them but also monitoring their everyday fishing activities and supporting them with the right knowledge of handling and giving them operational advices when needed. We are delighted to see Indonesian fishing communities flourish from sustainable fishing practice.
