5 Rules To Streaming
It's More Than A Career, It's A Business!
The idea of streaming for a living has evolved over the years and so should your approach to it. To build on this platform, you'll need to build on other platforms as well. Grow on Youtube, Instagram, Tiktok, Twitter, etc and redirect your audience to twitch. Build a stream and upload schedule and be consistent. Make sure the workload is manageable! For most people, they are still trying to balance work, life, and streaming. You don't have to post a new video up every other day, but aim for one per week. DO NOT NEGLECT YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES! Life is not an obstacle in your streaming career.
Set The Right Goals!
Many people set follower and viewership goals to measure their success in this industry. There's nothing wrong with this, but I wouldn't recommend setting goals that heavily rely on other people to reach it. You want to be in control of your growth and how you do it. Make action base goals that produces some sort of result. Some examples are goals like "Post 3 videos on Youtube per month" or "market Twitch clips 3 times per week".
Accountability
This may seem frivolous, but the people who go back to see if they've done what they said they were going to do see more success than others. The people who write it out and track their performance are the people who live in that success. Create a period in which you keep up with your goals. At the end of that period, go back and check off what you did to produce content, and getting it out there. Also, write down the outcome of your work and compare your recent period with your previous. This way you can measure the return on your work, and find ways to improve your work ethic. THIS DOES NOT IMPROVE THE QUALITY OF YOUR CONTENT. This is a strategy to HELP you grow. What you do in front of the camera is up to you.
Be A Sponge!
Learn from everyone and everything! Sometimes, money isn't always the answer in this industry. See what your favorite streamers and content creators are doing. See what other streamers at your level are doing. See what streamers who are doing better by comparison are doing. Take advice from EVERYONE! There's no such thing as a failed streamer in this industry. You either build your business, make it a side gig, or enjoy your time on the internet. Twitch and platforms like it are not binary. Learn how to produce your channel, design overlays, create logos, connect websites and provide a resource. The more knowledge you have, the more involve you can be in the industry.
Marketing
Marketing is everything. Nothing in this world happens without it. The sole purpose of marketing is to raise brand awareness and that is exactly what you want to do. There's a lot of marketing dos and don'ts. The best advice I can give you is to market highlights in your person, not the game. The game is not your brand, you are. Marketing is something you should be doing almost every single day. This is why Youtube is so important and has better discoverability. However, you shouldn't solely rely on it. You need to put yourself out there because no one else is going to do it for you.
