The museums provide limitless inspiration for future generations to much better understand the financial and social history of Joplin and the Tri-State Mining District. The complex have 2 distincly different museums for a guest to explore and experience. They both have various courses through history but they ultimately expose Joplin's exciting past through various aspects.
The museum complex is located just west of the aquatic center. Outside of the entrance, guests are greeted by a dinosaur sculpture which stands about six feet in height and is made from scrap metal and other products such as license plates. It is quite creative and worth seeing.
The complex houses a treasure trove of collections. The exhibit displays are educational and offer some unique products to view. In the Everett J. Ritchie Tri-State Mineral Museum, large pieces of rocks and minerals are shown in a location that resembles the inside of a mine shaft.
Guestswill find a case consisting of fossil remains of a woolly mammoth and some Native American arrowheads-- all discovered in the four-state area.

Meanwhile, guests will be fixated on the display of fluorescent minerals. The display shows them under normal light and then fluorescent light. It's so enchanting to see those apparently normal rocks transform into radiant, alien-like formations.
On the other side of the museum complex, the Dorothea B. Hoover Historic Museum houses a range of collections that concentrate on the history and culture of the Joplin location. Emphasizes of this area consist of artifacts from your home of Lords, a popular saloon from Joplin's mining days. It
Other exhibits at the complex consist of the Joplin Sports Authority Sports Hall of Fame, the National Historic Cookie Cutter Museum, and the Merle Evans & Circus Tent Miniature Circus Exhibit. Many will be left wide-eyed at this miniature circus that fills a whole room.
