Hello, my name is Gideon Chen. I am currently a junior in the Texas Academy at Lamar University and I am majoring in Biochemistry with a pre-med concentration. I was born in 2007 in China. My hobbies include rock climbing, weightlifting, listening to music, and eating food. One thing I hope to gain from this community is the ability to become a better leader.
Academic and Personal Goals
BHAG - Finish my bachelor's at Lamar and go to med school.
Why - Surgery looks fun, and I like studying anatomy.
How - I will complete schooling and do job shadows and internships.
What - I will become a neurosurgeon and help people.
Long-Term Goals - I want to get my degree and become a surgeon.
Leadership
My leadership goals for the next four years are getting a doctoral degree in pre-med, getting a high position at a company, and making money.
I need a strategy when dealing with conversations with all these attributes, since talking to someone who is opposed to what I speak for is definitely frustrating. Staying calm and letting the conversation flow is my strategy which usually works in not letting everyone get angry at each other over their differences in opinion.
Research Study
1. What is your specific area of interest (major/minor) and which avenue are you considering to research and study more closely?
My major would be biochemistry for pre-med and I am considering researching and studying more about surgery and procedures.
2. What are some of the challenges you think you will face as you navigate your steps ahead with research or a course of study?
Some challenges I would face are time management and endurance through the many years of schooling.
3. Which professional networks or organizations do you belong to, whether they relate to your future research or course of study?
I take part in Lamar organizations like AMSA, and SASE. I've also been part of HOSA, FCCLA, and some other organizations.
