Good afternoon, GCDP!
Please note that Chair Thaxton has received and has begun evaluating nominations for the vacant seat of the Gibson Co. Election Commissioner to serve out the term of Kaleb Dinwiddie, who resigned in early June. The Gibson County Democratic Party has set a deadline of THURSDAY at 4:00 PM to submit your nomination(s). This is an important role that requires training and a significant time commitment. It provides minimal pay, similar to working as a poll worker, but also has strict requirements upheld by the State of TN. Our party will submit a nomination to the West Tennessee Regional Commissioner, who will conduct a vetting process before nominating someone for the role.
Per Chair Thaxton, “The GCDP criteria for the role of Election Commissioner includes active participation in the county party, good voting record in general and primary elections, ability to work across party lines and willingness to start immediately (Early voting commences in mid-July). We also prefer that our nominee be female to assure our representation is gender balanced, in keeping with GCDP and TNDP norms.”
Nominations will be considered by a special committee of the Gibson County Democratic Party under Chair Thaxton, and the GCDP executive committee will meet June 18, 2026, to finalize our candidate.
You may respond to this email with your nominations. Please see the criteria set by the elected officers below.
Must be an active member of the GCDP
Must be female to represent our county's constituents best
Ready, willing, and able to begin now, & someone who can work across party lines for the betterment of the county & its constituents

If you have any questions, please let us know.
Together we can,
Katie
