Professional baseball's Lotte Giants have completed the formation of the 2024 season squad and are starting to work hard to win the new season.
Lotte will begin spring camp on the 31st. After undergoing physical and technical training in Guam, USA until February 20th, they will move to Okinawa, Japan. Lotte plans to hold a joint training and exchange match with the Japanese Chiba Lotte Marines first team squad in Okinawa from February 21 to March 5.
63 people, including Lotte players, managers, and coaches, will participate in the training camp. Led by new head coach Kim Tae-hyung, the team consists of 13 coaches, 20 pitchers, 4 catchers, 12 infielders, and 7 outfielders. Among this season's rookies, pitcher Jeon Mir was the only one named to the spring training roster.
Additionally, veteran infielder Kim Min-seong, who returned to his former team Lotte through a sign-and-trade, will also participate. Kim Min-seong, who qualified as a free agent (FA) after last season, signed with LG, his original team, for up to 3 years (2+1 years) for a total of 900 million won (200 million won in down payment, 500 million won in annual salary, 200 million won in options) and then traded with Min-soo Kim. He wore a Lotte uniform.
However, left-handed pitcher Shim Jae-min, who was considered a strong candidate for the 5th starting selection, was excluded from training in Guam because he is recovering from a shoulder injury.
Prior to the start of spring camp, Lotte completed salary contracts with 49 players eligible for renewal for the 2024 season. First, closer Kim Won-joong, who became the 21st player in history to make 100 saves, signed for 500 million won. This amount is a 90.8% increase compared to last year. Koo Seung-min, who achieved 20 holds for four consecutive seasons, followed with 450 million won (81% increase rate).
Na Kyun-an, a representative example of a catcher-turned-pitcher, renewed his contract at 205 million won, up 88.1%, and Yoon Dong-hee at 90 million won, up 172.7%. Kim Min-seok, who became the 8th high school rookie to hit 100 hits, recorded the highest salary increase (183.3%) this year with an annual salary of 85 million won.
Lotte also announced players who are likely to enlist in the Armed Forces Athletic Corps (Sangmu) during this season. At Lotte, Han Dong-hee, Lee Tae-yeon, and Lee Jin-ha applied for the position of managing director. They will be able to find out whether they will enlist in March through document presentation in January or February and a physical fitness evaluation scheduled for the future. If you are finally selected, you will enlist in June during the season.
