History is not always something you can see — in Tuscany, it’s often something you can taste.

When people think about Tuscan cuisine, they often picture the famous bistecca alla fiorentina, but the region’s true culinary roots lie in its “cucina povera” — the simple, rustic dishes created with what the land provided: vegetables from the garden, grains, and beans from the fields.

This tour combines history and gluttony. Between a charming square and a hidden corner, we’ll stop by Lucca’s oldest shop, where you’ll find typical local products from the surrounding hills, such as the famous fagioli scritti (Lucca’s traditional beans).

During these two delicious hours, we’ll enjoy several tastings that reveal Lucca’s culture through its authentic flavors.

• tasting of buccellato (Lucca’s sweet bread) with a hot drink

• Focaccia lucchese

• Extra-virgin olive oil from the hills

• Local wine – 3 different wines

• Traditional Lucchesian liqueur

• Pappa al pomodoro (Tuscan tomato and bread soup)

The order of the tastings may vary depending on the time of day and meeting point.

The tasting menu as described is vegan. For the vegetarian version, a traditional “torta di erbi” (savory herb pie) is also included.
