Government Higher Secondary School, Tyakshi Nubra
Government Higher Secondary School, Tyakshi Nubra, was established in 1973 as a primary school. The school was upgraded to High School in 2010 and subsequently upgraded to Government Higher Secondary School in 2019.
The school is situated in the Nubra Valley of Ladakh, near the Actual Line of Control (ALC) with Pakistan. Owing to its remote and strategically important location, the school plays a significant role in providing educational opportunities to students residing in the surrounding areas. The school is located approximately 120 kilometres from the District Headquarters at Diskit, Nubra, and 217 kilometres from the Chief Education Office, Leh District.
At present, the school has 91 students enrolled from Classes VI to XII and offers Arts and Science streams at the senior secondary level. The school became affiliated with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) in 2022.
Following its CBSE affiliation, the school has been implementing the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and the CBSE-pattern curriculum across all classes. The school strives to provide quality education in a challenging geographical environment while fostering academic excellence, holistic development, critical thinking, creativity, and essential life skills among its students.
Co-Curricular Activities
Along with academic learning, the school places considerable emphasis on the holistic development of students through a wide range of co-curricular activities. Students are actively engaged in music, art and craft, food exhibitions, cultural programmes, sports, and National Cadet Corps (NCC) activities. These activities provide students with opportunities to explore their talents, develop creativity, build confidence, strengthen teamwork and leadership skills, and appreciate the rich cultural heritage of the region.
Through participation in sports and NCC, students also develop discipline, physical fitness, a sense of responsibility, teamwork, and leadership qualities. Cultural programmes, music, art, and food exhibitions further encourage students to express themselves creatively and showcase the diverse traditions and local heritage of Nubra Valley.
Despite its remote location and challenging terrain, the school continues to serve as an important centre of learning for the local community. The school remains committed to providing students with quality education and opportunities for academic, cultural, physical, and personal growth, thereby preparing them to face the challenges and opportunities of the future.
