GhostType ("the extension") is a Chrome browser extension that simulates humanlike typing into chat boxes on websites the user explicitly enables it on. This page describes what data the extension does and does not handle.
Data we collect
None. GhostType does not collect, transmit, sell, or share any personal information, browsing activity, message content, or usage analytics. There are no servers operated by the developer, no third-party services involved,
and no telemetry of any kind.
Data the extension stores locally
The extension uses Chrome's built-in chrome.storage.local API to save the following on your own device only:
- The list of websites you have toggled the extension on for
- Your preferences (typing speed in WPM, sentence-end Enter rules, sound preset, sound volumes, enable/disable for typing and completion sounds)
- The screen position of the floating ghost icon and panel, per site
- The text you have currently pasted into the panel, so it is preserved if you close and reopen the panel
This data never leaves your browser. It is removed when you uninstall the extension or clear your browser data.
Permissions and why they are needed
- storage — to save the preferences listed above on your device
- activeTab — to know which site you are currently on when you toggle the extension on or off from the toolbar popup
- Host permission for all URLs — required so the extension can detect focused chat boxes and inject its floating icon on whatever site you choose to enable it on. The extension does nothing on a site until you explicitly
turn it on for that site from the toolbar popup.
Remote code
The extension does not load or execute any code from remote servers. All logic ships inside the extension package and is reviewed by the Chrome Web Store.
Children's privacy
The extension is not directed at children under 13 and collects no information from any user.
Changes to this policy
