Ghost Translator — Privacy Policy

This policy describes how the Ghost Translator browser extension ("the Extension") collects, uses, and protects information.
WHAT WE COLLECT
- Page text you choose to translate: when translation is active, the visible text of the page (and text you type, if field translation is active) is sent to our translation server (Supabase Edge Functions) and/or Google's public Translate service, only to generate the translation. This text is not permanently stored by us.
- Email and account identifier, only if you choose to sign in (via Google, through Supabase Auth), to sync your plan (Free/Premium) and daily usage limits.
- Daily word count, stored locally in your browser and, for signed-in users, associated with your account to enforce the free plan limit.
- Extension preferences (target language, typing-translation language, whether translation is active), stored locally in your browser.
WHAT WE DON'T COLLECT
- We never collect passwords (Google sign-in uses OAuth; the Extension never sees your Google password).
- We do not sell or share your data with third parties for advertising purposes.
- We do not use collected data to train AI models.
HOW DATA IS USED
Data is used exclusively to:
- Perform the requested translation
- Verify your subscription plan (Free/Premium) and enforce usage limits
- Process payment and grant Premium access (via Gumroad)
THIRD-PARTY SERVICES
- Supabase (database, authentication, backend functions)
- Google Translate (free translation, when applicable)
- Gumroad (Premium subscription payment processing)
STORAGE AND RETENTION
- Preferences and usage counters live in your browser's local storage and can be deleted anytime by removing the extension.
- Account data (email, subscription status) is kept in our Supabase database until you request account deletion.
YOUR RIGHTS
You may at any time:
- Disable translation and/or remove the extension
- Request deletion of your account and associated data by contacting us below
