Ghost Extension - Privacy Policy
Last Updated: December 18, 2025
1. Introduction Ghost ("we", "our", or "the Extension") is a Chrome browser extension designed to help users archive, curate, and export content from X (formerly Twitter) for personal research and productivity purposes. We believe in privacy by design. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle your data.
2. Data Collection and Usage Ghost operates strictly as a client-side tool. This means:
Local Processing: All data collection (tweets, threads, metrics) happens directly within your web browser.
No Remote Servers: We do not transmit, store, or process your data on any external servers. Your archives exist only on your local machine until you choose to delete them.
Data Types: The extension temporarily stores text, URLs, and public interaction metrics (likes, reposts) of the content you specifically choose to archive or curate.
3. Permissions and Technical Access To function correctly, Ghost requires the following permissions:
activeTab: Used to read the DOM (structure) of the specific X.com page you are currently viewing to extract content upon your command.
storage: Used to save your preferences (e.g., speed settings, export format) and to temporarily hold collected data before you download it as a file (PDF, CSV, etc.).
scripting: Used to inject the user interface (overlay and buttons) into the page without requiring a reload.
Host Permissions (x.com): Strictly limited to X.com and Twitter.com to function as intended.
4. Data Sharing We do not sell, trade, or transfer your data to third parties. Since the data never leaves your browser (except when you download a report to your computer), we have no access to it.
5. AI and Third-Party Services The "AI-Ready" feature refers to the output format (Markdown) of the files generated locally. The extension does not automatically send data to any AI service (like Gemini, ChatGPT or Claude). You, as the user, have full control over where you upload your exported files.
6. Changes to This Policy We may update this Privacy Policy to reflect changes in our practices or for other operational, legal, or regulatory reasons. The updated policy will be posted at this URL.
