기차 Ghi-Cha 汽車

서울 기반의 출판을 중심으로 하는 컬렉티브이다. 기차의 승객들이 각자 다른 목적지를 향하지만 같은 기차를 타고 이동하는 것처럼 기차의 멤버들은 책이라는 매체를 탐구하고, 다양성을 공유하는 여정을 통해 서로의 세계를 확장한다. 각 구성원들은 사진, 시각예술, 그래픽디자인, 가구 및 공간디자인 등 다양한 매체에서 활동하며 기차라는 플랫폼을 통해 서로의 분야를 반영한 시야를 가지고, 책이라는 매체를 다각도로 해석하는 작업을 진행하고자 한다.

Ghi-Chaは、汽車の韓国語発音を英語で表記した名前で、ソウルを拠点に活動する出版中心のコレクティブです。写真、視覚芸術、デザインなど様々な分野のメンバーが、本という媒体を通して多様な視点を共有し、協働しています。2025年東京アートブックフェアで5冊の書籍と新刊を発表予定です。

Ghi-cha is a Seoul-based collective, focused on publishing. The name derives from the Korean pronunciation of 汽車, symbolizing the journey a book takes readers on, much like a train ride to a destination. The members collaborate, expanding each other’s worlds through a journey of shared diversity. The group has participated in various book fairs, including the Fukuoka Art Book Fair 2024 and the Gunsan Book Fair 2024, and the Fukuoka Art Book Fair again in 2025.

이은지 Eunjee Lee

서울에서 활동하는 사진가이자 그래픽 디자이너. 촬영과 암실 인화라는 두 사건 사이의 시차를 통해 기억의 흔적을 새롭게 발견하고 재조립한다. 때로는 피사체를 해체하고 재구성하는 행위를 통해, ‘사진이 기억을 기록할 수 있는가’에 대한 질문을 탐구한다. 이러한 과정을 책이라는 형태로 재구성하며 작업을 이어가고 있다.
ソウルを拠点に活動する写真家兼グラフィックデザイナー。撮影と暗室プリントという二つの出来事のあいだにある時間差を通して、記憶の痕跡を新たに発見し、再構成している。時には被写体を解体・再構成する行為を通じて、「写真は記憶を記録できるのか」という問いを探求する。そうしたプロセスを本という形式で再構成しながら、制作を続けている。
Based in Seoul, Eunjee is a photographer and graphic designer who worked as a designer at the Korean publishing house Datz Press from 2023 to 2024. Through the time gap between shooting and darkroom printing, they assemble traces of memory newly discovered or explore the question, “Can photography record memory?” by cutting out existing subjects, layering different images, and deliberately damaging film.

도유나 Yuna Doh

서울을 기반으로 활동하는 그래픽 디자이너. 관계와 생활 양식이 특정 사물이나 공간에 반영되는 방식을 탐구하는 것을 좋아하며, 다층적인 이야기를 책이라는 공간 안에 담아내는 연습을 지속하고 있다.
ソウルを拠点に活動しているグラフィックデザイナー。人々の関係性や生活様式が特定の物や空間にどのように反映されるのかを探求することに関心を持ち、そのような多層的な話を本という空間に込める作業を続けています。
Based in Seoul, Yuna is a graphic designer who worked as a designer at the Korean publishing house Datz Press from 2023 to 2024. She enjoys exploring how relationships and ways of living are reflected in specific objects or spaces and continues to practice capturing multilayered narratives within the space of a book.

한채현 Chaehyeon Han

서울을 기반으로 활동하는 가구 및 공간 디자이너. 흘러가는 것들에 시선을 머무르게 하고, 쉽게 잊히는 감각에 형태를 입히는 작업에 관심이 있다. 사물과 공간을 넘어 음악과 그로부터 파생되는 감정에 주목하며, 인쇄 매체를 매개로 감상에 대한 소통을 시도하고 그 폭을 넓혀가고자 한다.

ソウルを拠点に活動する家具および空間デザイナー。流れゆくものに目をとどめ、忘れられやすい感覚にかたちを与えることに関心を持つ。物や空間を越えて音楽とそこから生まれる感情に目を向け、印刷メディアを通じて鑑賞についての対話を試み、その広がりを少しずつ深めていこうとしている。
Chaehyun is a furniture and spatial designer based in Seoul, currently working at the Korean furniture and spatial design studio, studioCOM. They are interested in giving form and materiality to things that might otherwise go unnoticed. Through books, they seek to connect with people and deepen their exploration of these interests.

『Round Trip』 by 이은지 Eunjee Lee

『Round Trip』은 어딘가로 향하는 여정을 스냅으로 기록한 사진집이다. 차창으로 비쳐드는 밝은 빛, 쉼없이 변화하지만 눈을 감는 순간 정지된 잔상으로 새겨지는 풍경을 바라보는 경험은 작가에게 끝없이 부유하는 이동의 감각으로 남았다. 이러한 경험과 당시의 감정과 생각을 표현하기 위해 작가는 밀착 인화지 위에 추상적인 흔적을 남기고 이를 책으로 엮었다. 책장을 빠르게 넘기면 개별적인 잔상이 하나의 이야기로 연결된다.

Eunjee Leeの“Round Trip”は、スナップショットを通してどこかに行く旅を記録したフォトブックです。窓越しに輝く明るい光を眺める体験、目を閉じると凍り付いた残像のように絶えず変化しながらも刻み込まれた風景は、アーティストに果てしなく漂う動きを感じさせるものでした。そのような感情や当時の考えを表現するために、彼女はコンタクトプリントに抽象的な痕跡を残し、それらを本にまとめました。ページをすばやくめくることで、個々のトレースが1つのストーリーにつながっていることがわかります。

“Round Trip”by Eunjee Lee is a photo book documenting a journey to somewhere through snapshots. The experience of looking at the bright light shining through the window, the landscape that is constantly changing yet etched as a frozen afterimage when one closes their eyes left the artist with a sense of endlessly floating movement. To express such emotions, and thoughts from that time, she left abstract traces on contact prints and compiled them into a book. By flipping through the pages quickly, you can see the individual traces connect to one story.

『형식에서 시작하기 Start from making the form』 by 도유나 Yuna Doh

도유나의 책, 『형식에서 시작하기』는 책을 어떤 ‘형태’로 보여줄 것인가라는 질문에서 시작한 이야기와 작업 과정을 담은 책이다. 그래픽 디자이너로서 주어진 내용을 어떤 방식으로 표현할 지를 고민하는 것부터 평소 작업을 시작하던 작가는, 본인의 책을 만들고자 하는 마음과 책의 내용이 아닌 형식에 집중되는 본인의 관점이 상충됨에 흥미를 느끼고, 그 자체를 받아들이고 풀어내는 과정을 한 권의 책으로 표현하고자 하였다.

Yuna Dohの“Start from making the form”は、本をどのような「形態」で見せるかという問いから始まった物語と作業過程を収めた本です。グラフィックデザイナーとして与えられた内容をどのように表現するかを考えることから作業を始める彼女は、自分の本を作りたいという気持ちと、本の内容ではなく形式に焦点を当てる自分の視点との間の葛藤に興味を持ち、そのプロセスを受け入れ解き明かす過程を一冊の本として表現したいと考えました。

Yuna’s book, “Starting from Form”, captures the story and working process that began with the question: “In what ‘form’ should a book be presented?” As a graphic designer, she typically starts her work by considering how to visually express given content. However, when creating her own book, she found herself intrigued by the tension between her desire to make a book and her tendency to focus on its form rather than its content. Embracing this conflict, she sought to translate the process into a book itself.

『조각과 연결 Pieces and Links』 by 도유나 Yuna Doh

『조각과 연결』은 임의로 수집한 텍스트를 활용한 여러 실험을 담은 책이다. 작가는 하나의 특징으로 모이지 않는 본인의 책장, 그리고 형태를 먼저 살펴보거나 동시에 여러 권을 읽는 독서 습관과 하이퍼텍스트 사이의 유사한 지점을 발견한다. 그 발견에서 시작해 하이퍼텍스트의 특성을 바탕으로, 다른 텍스트에서 단어 혹은 문장을 수집하여 결합해 완결이 모호한 한 권의 책으로 엮어보았다. 이 책은 읽는 순서가 정해져 있지 않으므로, 독자는 관심과 흥미에 따라 이 책의 정보를 선택하며 새로운 해석을 만들어 갈 수 있다.

“ピ—スとリンク” は、ランダムに収集したテキストを活用して行った様々な実験を収めた本です。著者は、一つの特徴で集まらない自身の本棚、そして本の形態をまず観察したり、複数の本を同時に読んだりする読書習慣と、ハイパーテキストとの類似性に着目しました。この発見を出発点として、ハイパーテキストの特性を基に、他のテキストから単語や文章を収集し、それらを合わせて完結が曖昧な一冊の本にまとめました。この本には特定の読み順が定められていないため、読者は自身の興味や関心に従って情報を選び取り、新たな解釈を作り上げることができます。

“Pieces and Links” by Yuna Doh is a book that contains various experiments using arbitrarily collected texts. The artist discovers a similarity between their bookshelf—where books do not gather under a single characteristic—and the nature of hypertext, as well as their reading habits of examining the physical form first or reading multiple books simultaneously. Based on this discovery, the artist gathers words or sentences from different texts and combines them into a book with an ambiguous sense of completeness, utilizing the characteristics of hypertext. Since there is no fixed reading order, readers can select and interpret the information in this book according to their interests, creating new meanings as they go.

『점과 돌 From the points into the pebbles』 by 이은지 Eunjee Lee

어린 시절 자주 방문했던 산을 코로나 시기에 자주 다시 가게 된 이은지는 ‘돌’에 주목하게 된다. 사람들이 쌓아 올린 돌탑, 물속에 잠긴 돌, 침식으로 형태가 변한 돌을 통해 자연의 시간의 흐름을 느낀다. 그 경험 속에서, 삶과 죽음 사이에 있는 미묘한 경계를 마주하고, 돌이 새로운 생명을 품을 수 있는 가능성을 지닌 존재임을 깨닫는다.

Eunjee Leeの“From the Points into the Pebbles”は、石に関する写真集です。幼い頃から自宅の裏山によく通い、毎日散歩しながら'見る'練習をしてきた著者は、コロナ隔離期間中にその場所を散歩していた時、'石'に注目するようになります。彼は人々によって積まれた石塔、水に沈んだ石、浸食によって様々な形に変わった石の中に、自然の始まりを感じ取ります。また、石の小さな模様から広大な地球や宇宙を想像し、友人と一緒に石になってみたりもしました。筆者はその過程で、生きているものと死んでいるものの微妙な違いを経験します。石は無生物でありながら、何かが生まれるための材料として命を包み込んでいることに気づいたのです。

Eunjee Lee’s “From the Points into the Pebbles” is a photography book about stones. Having practiced ‘seeing’ during daily walks on the mountain behind her childhood home, she found herself drawn to stones while walking there again during the COVID-19 lockdown. Observing stone towers stacked by people, submerged rocks, and stones shaped by erosion, she sensed the origins of nature. Imagining the vastness of the Earth and the universe through the small patterns on stones, she even tried ‘becoming stone’ herself with a friend. In doing so, she experienced the subtle boundary between the living and the nonliving, realizing that while stones are inanimate, they hold the potential for new life.

『6 o’clock Somewhere』 by 홍예진 Yejin Hong

『6 o’clock Somewhere』은 해가 질 무렵의 하늘을 그린 그림들이다. 그림들은 홍예진의 방 창문에서 하늘을 봤을 때 건물에 가려져 보이는 비율에 맞춰 그렸다. 노을이 지는 시간의 하늘은 낮과 밤을 순식간에 구분한다. 해가 지는 6시쯤은 어떤 일이 끝난 후일 수도 있고, 어떤 일이 시작되기에도 충분한 시간처럼 보인다. 그리고 하늘은 그 어떤 일처럼 어느샌가 사라지고 다시는 같은 모습으로 나타나지 않는다.

“6 o’clock Somewhere”は、夕暮れ時の空を描いた連作である。アトリエの窓から見える建物に遮られて切り取られた空を、その景色の比率に合わせて描いた。6時という時間は、何かが過ぎ去った後の時間である可能性があり、また何かが始まる前の静かな余白の時間でもある。空は出来事のように、気づかぬうちに色を変えていき、同じ姿に戻ることはない。

"6 o’clock Somewhere" consists of drawings depicting the sky at 6 o'clock from seen through the window of the artist’s studio. The drawings were created according to the proportions of the window view, where the sky is partially blocked by buildings. The time of 6 o'clock can be seen as a moment after something has happened or as a sufficient time before something takes place. Like any fleeting moment, the colors of the sky vanish before we realize it, never to return in the same form.

『Outro Tempo』 by 한채현 Chaehyeon Han

음원 스트리밍을 통해 다양한 음악을 쉽고 빠르게 소비하게 된 한편, 감상은 금세 휘발되어 버리고 만다. 『Outro Tempo』는 단순히 듣는 행위에서 그치지 않고, 머릿속에서 부유하는 소리와 그에 관한 개인적인 기억을 글과 이미지로 아카이브 하며 잡아두고자 한다. 또한 이것은 음악을 보다 적극적으로 감상해 보려는 시도이며, 이 책을 접한 이들과 서로의 감상을 나누며 그 방식을 조금씩 넓혀가고자 한다.

ストリーミングサービスによって、多様な音楽が手軽かつ迅速に消費される一方で、その鑑賞はすぐに薄れてしまう。“Outro Tempo”は、ただ聴くという行為にとどまらず、頭の中を漂う音や、それにまつわる個人的な記憶を、文章やイメージでアーカイブし、留めようとする試みである。また、これは音楽をより能動的に味わおうとする試みでもあり、この本に触れた人々と感想を通じて共有しながら、その楽しみ方を少しずつ広げていこうとしている。

Streaming services have made it easier than ever to access and consume a wide variety of music, but our appreciation often fades just as quickly. “Outro Tempo” seeks to go beyond passive listening—to hold onto the sounds that linger in our minds and the personal memories they evoke, archiving them through words and images. It is an effort to engage with music more actively, and to gradually expand that experience by sharing impressions with others who encounter this book.

『번역된 즐겨찾기들 Translated Bookmarks』 by 도유나 Yuna Doh

『번역된 즐겨찾기들』은 사람 간의 대화, 더 나아가 작가가 창작물을 발표하고 타인이 그것을 감상하는 행위 안에서 발생하는 상호작용을 통해 작품의 의미가 확장되는 것에 재미를 느꼈던 경험을 바탕으로 기획한 책이다. 8명의 친구와 영화, 드라마, 음악, 사진 등 폭넓게 창작물의 범위를 상정하고 그에 관한 경험에 관해 묻고 답하는 인터뷰를 진행했다. 이 과정에서 창작자-작품-감상자 간을 오가며 어떤 상호작용이 발생하는지, 더 나아가 ‘화자가 말하는 행위’를 넘어 ‘청자의 경험과 해석’에서 어떻게 창작물이 더욱 확장되고 완전해지는지와 관련된 직간접적인 경험을 듣고 살펴보고 기록했다.

“Translated Bookmarks”は作家が創作物を発表し、他者がそれを鑑賞する行為の中で生まれる相互作用を通して、作品の意味が広がっていくことに面白さを感じた経験をもとに企画された本である。映画、ドラマ、音楽、写真など、創作物の範囲を広く想定し、8人の友人とそれに関する経験について問答するインタビューを行った。その過程で、創作者－作品－鑑賞者の間を行き来しながらどのような相互作用が生まれるのか、さらに「話者が語る行為」を越えて、「聴者の経験と解釈」によってどのように創作物が完全になっていくことについての直接的・間接的な経験を聞き、観察し、記録した。

“Translated Bookmarks” is a book planned based on the experience of how the meaning of a work expands through the interactions that occur when a creator presents a work and others appreciate it. Interviews were conducted with eight friends, broadly within the scope of creative works such as film, music, and photography. In this process, this book recorded experiences of how a creative work becomes more expansive not only through the act of the speaker speaking, but also through the experience and interpretation of the listener.
