The Library presently observes the same working hours and holidays as the College.
Every student at the time of borrowing books from the Library shall produce his/her Identity Card. A person borrowing books from the Library shall be held responsible for any loss of pages or damage of the book and he/she will have to pay fine in addition to double the cost of that book.
Teachers are not allowed to take more than ten books at a time.
Members of the College staff or the establishment at the time of leaving the College or transfer, retirement or otherwise shall return all the books borrowed by them before the LPC or “No Demand” certificate is issued in his favour.
Students can borrow only two books at a time, for a period of fifteen days.
Students must return books taken by them within fifteen days. Any student retaining a book after the time allowed shall have to pay a fine of Rs. 1/- per day until the same is returned, provided the fine incurred shall not exceed double the cost of the book..
Any person, who either loses a book or otherwise damages it, shall be liable to pay an amount not less than double the cost of the book. When it belongs to a set or series, and unless he can replace it, he shall be liable to pay the cost of the whole set or series.
Students free from lecture work may visit the Library during the college hours. No talking or disturbance of any kind is allowed in the library. Any infringement of rules shall incur punishment/fine.
Library is meant only for the use of those persons who are directly or indirectly connected with the academic life of the College.
Books of the following description shall not be issued by the library: Reference Books Periodicals/Magazines Dictionaries of prominence Encyclopaedia/Census Reports, Rare books identified by College Library Committee/Principal.
Periodicals shall not be issued except for consultation in the library premises.
All books shall have to be returned to the library every year at the time of stock checking especially in April-May. The librarian shall make a report of books found damaged/missing to the principal, soon after the stock checking is over and shall prepare the list of books to be written off.
Teachers of the College, who wish to retain certain books during the summer vacation, shall have to return the same to the library at the time of stock checking.
Sleeping, smoking, chatting, eating etc are strictly prohibited in the library.
Housed in an independent block, the college library is one of the oldest libraries in J&K Higher Education Institutions. It has a rich and rare collection of books, some even dating back to the year 1868. A rare photo collection of the visit of the Royal Highness, the Prince and Princess of Wales, dating back to December 1905 is a pride possession of the college library. The college library has a collection of over 74,000 books pertaining to the varied range of subjects being offered in the college. The library facilities are upgraded every year in terms of making available latest titles on all subjects taught in the college. Several magazines, newspapers and journals relating to topics of general nature and specialized fields of science are subscribed in the college library for the benefits of students and staff. There is a separate reference section, heritage section, DST section etc. Day to day functioning of the library is taken care by qualified library staff. There is a reading hall in College library and separate reading room is also functional in the Electronics block, adjacent to the library. The College has subscribed college component of e-shodhsindhu consortium with access to over 6000+ electronic journals as well as 1,99,500+ electronic books under N-LIST. All students and faculty of the College are registered users of N-LIST.
The Library of the College is partially automated, using KOHA (Integrated library management system). With the help of automation, library operations are performed more efficiently. This includes tracking and managing of library collections, automating the check out and return of books and using digital tools to catalog and search library holdings. Bar- Code enabled library-cum-identity cards are issued to college students and faculty. Library offers free WIFI facility to all the students & faculty. Also there is an E-resources access zone in the library.
