History

In the historic city of Sheikhupura, this institution was established in 1968 in a rented building under the name of the Govt. Commercial Training Center. Alongside the launch of a one-year certificate course, a library was also created to support the academic needs of students. In 1969, the institute was upgraded to the status of Govt. Commercial Training Institute and began offering the Diploma in Commerce (D.Com) classes, with the library continuing to serve as an essential resource for students and faculty. This progression of educational offerings continued over time. In 1984, the institution moved into a spacious building constructed by the government, and the library was expanded to accommodate the growing student body. The principal and teachers have continuously worked towards the growth and betterment of the institution. Recognizing the increasing demand for commerce education, B.Com classes were officially launched in 2020, and the institution was renamed Govt. College of Commerce. The B.Com classes, originally affiliated with Punjab University, later evolved into a two-year Associate Degree in Commerce (ADC). In 2020, the four-year BS in Business Administration program was introduced under the semester system, and the college was upgraded to Govt. Graduate College of Commerce, Sheikhupura. Throughout these changes, the library has remained a vital part of the institution, consistently supporting academic success.Â
