The Drug Enforcement Commission – DEC -has arrested a 27- year-old suspected notorious Drug dealer of Lusaka’s Matero Township.
DANNY MAPULANGA, who is a businessman, has been arrested for trafficking in 350 sachets of Heroin.
DEC Public Relations Officer MATHIUS KAMANGA has confirmed the arrests in a statement to ZNBC News in Lusaka today.
Mr. KAMANGA said MAPULANGA is in Police custody and will appear in Court soon.
And the Commission has also arrested and jointly charged a Zimbabwean and a Spanish national for trafficking in narcotic drugs and for being in possession of 18 elephant bones.
Mr. KAMANGA said the elephant bones have since been handed over to the department of Wildlife and National Parks.
And in separate incidents, the Commission arrested Six people for cultivating and for being in possession of canabis.
The Six were arrested in Western, Copperbelt, Southern and Northern Provinces.
Mr. KAMANGA said the six have been remanded in custody and will appear in Court soon.
The Ministry of Health is saddened that parents are not giving consent to have their children vaccinated against COVID 19.
Ministry of Health Permanent Secretary Technical Services LUCKSON KASONKA says despite efforts to get consent from parents for their children to get the jab, many have not responded.
Professor KASONKA has since appealed to parents to allow their children above 12 years to be vaccinated.
He says the vaccines provide the needed protection and parents should not take it lightly.
Professor KASONKA says the country has lost children to COVID-19.
Speaking to ZNBC News, Professor KASONKA said so far about 24 point 2 percent of the adult population has been covered and government targets to vaccinate about 70 percent.
The Parliamentary Public Accounts Committee -PAC has advised technocrats engaged to supervise governments projects to ensure that public funds are put to good use.
PAC Vice Chairperson, JACQUELINE SABAO says technocrats should also avoid being swayed by politicians in the execution of their duties.
She said this today in Kazungula district after inspecting the Kazungula District Hospital.
The PAC has also visited the Passport offices in Livingstone to follow up on some audit queries contained in the Auditor General’s Report.
The Ministry of Health says the recruitment exercise for the 11 thousand health workers is expected to be completed next month.
Ministry of Health Permanent Secretary in charge of Administration GEORGE MAGWENDE says the Ministry is currently validating the shortlisted candidates at district level.
Dr MAGWENDE says after the validation exercise names will then be submitted to the provincial offices and later at National level before the names can be published in the media.
He told ZNBC News that the slight delay is due to the overwhelming response in applications which led to the extension of the data capturing period.
The Ministry received over 1-hundred thousand applications for the recruitment exercise.
