I'm new to Unity and I've been trying to recreate the hammer movement system from Getting Over It. I saw in a steam forum that Bennett said to use a Hinge joint connecting the pot to an invisible body, and a slider joint to connect the invisible body to the hammer, and then motors on both of those to position the hammer. I've done all this, and I've run into a lot of problems in controlling the hammer.

I haven't done much yet for the slider joint, right now I'm just working on the hinge joint. So far my solution is to measure the slope of a line connecting the coordinates of the mouse to the pot, and then the slope of a line connecting the hammer head to the pot. I either increase or decrease motor speed based on whether the slope of the Hammer is less than or greater than the slope of the Mouse to Pot line.

This solution half works, it is shaky and all-around awful to control, and sometimes the hammer will turn opposite to the mouse since it will have the same slope. Also I think the momentum created by swinging the hammer throws the pot around. I've tried so many things to fix these problems, but nothing has worked. I feel like there has to be a much better way I'm not thinking of.
