As a part of our project,We have interviewed an ENT Doctor to further understand the ill effects of headphones and earphones. For this,We have interviewed Dr.Manu Vergis. Here are the questions and the answers:
I think that this generation is more prone to deafness as many people use headphones/earphones for very long stretches of time very frequently. One of the main ways is to reduce the duration . This is one of the main practices that we can undertake. Listening to loud noises that cross the decibel limit of 105 can almost certainly make someone partially deaf.
There is no scientific proof regarding the radiation impacts on our ears, even from our phones. Radiation can be detected, but it is not “fatal” . However, it will still have a minor impact on the ears. Generally speaking, even though that the impact can be ignored, bluetooth is still not entirely safe.
There are many ways in which this can be achieved. One of the most important is preventing the use of earbuds. Many people prefer to clean their ears directly after using headphones as earwax blocks the ears. Naturally, they use cotton buds, which can alter the location of the eardrum or even damage it , causing pain and temporary hearing loss in the inner ear.
I have seen young patients who have to go through multiple routine audiometries due to their day-to-day exposure to loud sounds, even headphones. They even report pain in the ears due to loud headphones, which goes to show that it could be a long term effect.
