HP printer connection issues are quite common. People usually ask why is HP printer not connecting wirelessly or showing offline. If you have been facing this issue and repeatedly seeing the Not Connected status in your HP printer, we are here to help. This post will list the most reliable ways to fix the HP printer not connecting error.
Problems in HP printer drivers, your phone or PC, and network connection prevent HP printers from connecting wirelessly. Use these troubleshooting techniques:
To troubleshoot Wi-Fi connection issues with the printer:
Ensure the printer is within 8 meters of the router. Check for a solid blue Wireless light.
Verify your computer or mobile device is connected to the correct network. They should not be connected to "DIRECT-xx-HP [printer model]."
Avoid public or guest networks requiring login confirmation.
Check Wi-Fi signal strength. Move closer to the router if weak signals persist due to obstacles.
Test internet connectivity. Open a website and see if it is loading.
If the connection is slow, minimize other network usage.
Ensure that your HP printer isn't connected via USB. USB usually blocks Wi-Fi setup and HP Instant Ink.
If HP printer’s software components are corrupt or installed incorrectly, the printer wont connect to Wi-Fi. Use these steps to reinstall the software.
In Windows PC, open Control Panel.
Under Programs or Programs and Features, tap Uninstall a program.
Click the HP printer name and uninstall its software.
Make sure the printer is powered on. Cartridges must be installed, and adequate plain paper should be in the tray.
Go to 123.hp.com.
Download the latest HP printer driver or app for your computer operating system version.
Select HP Smart or the full software option to install HP printer software.
Restore the Wi-Fi setup mode if your computer is not recognizing your printer.
Go to the Wireless or Setup menu in your printer.
Select Network setup or Settings.
Select Restore Network Settings.
Get the network name and password.
A simple way to fix an HP printer not connecting is resetting it. Follow these steps.
Find the Wireless button at the back of your HP wireless printer. Press and hold the button.
Do so for five seconds.
When the control panel shows a prompt, touch OK.
Your printer will be reset.
Now try connecting it to your computer.
Some causes of HP printers not connecting to phones are:
The printer and mobile device are not connected to a single network.
Poor network connection
A glitch in your Android or iPhone
A problem in print spooler settings
Follow this troubleshooting when your HP printer is not connecting to iPhone or Android:
Check whether your phone is connected to the same wireless network as your HP printer. Keep your printer within range of the Wi-Fi router signal. Then, reconnect it to the network.
Restart your Android or iPhone. Also, restart your printer and then connect both devices.
If the HP printer still doesn't connect to your iPhone, Open the Advanced Settings (EWS) in the HP Smart app.
Alternatively, type the printer's IP address into the address bar of your browser.
Check that the AirPrint status is on under Network Settings.
When faced with issues like unresponsive printers or persistent error messages, resetting your HP printer can often provide a quick and effective solution. In this guide, we'll explore eight methods to reset your HP printer and troubleshoot common problems.
The simplest and most common method to reset an HP printer is to power cycle it. Start by turning off the printer and unplugging it from the power source. Wait for a few minutes before plugging it back in and turning it on. This process helps clear any temporary glitches and restores the printer to its default settings.
Many HP printers come equipped with a control panel that allows users to access various settings and functions. Navigate to the "Setup" or "Tools" menu on the control panel and look for the option to reset the printer. Follow the on-screen instructions to initiate the reset process, which may vary depending on your printer model.
If you have the HP Smart App installed on your computer or mobile device, you can reset your printer remotely. Open the app, select your printer from the list of connected devices, and navigate to the settings or troubleshooting section. Look for the option to reset the printer and follow the prompts to complete the process.
Some HP printers offer web-based services that allow users to manage and troubleshoot their devices remotely. Access the HP Web Services portal from your computer's web browser and log in to your HP account. Locate the option to reset the printer and confirm your selection to initiate the reset process.
Restoring your HP printer to its factory defaults can often resolve persistent issues and reset all settings to their original state. To do this, access the printer's settings menu either through the control panel or the HP Smart App. Look for the option to restore factory defaults and confirm your selection to proceed with the reset.
A hard reset is a more aggressive method that should only be used as a last resort. This process involves physically disconnecting the printer from power and removing any additional accessories or components. After unplugging the printer, wait for at least 60 seconds before reconnecting it and powering it back on. Perform a test print to check if the issue has been resolved.
Outdated firmware can sometimes cause compatibility issues and errors on HP printers. Check for firmware updates either through the printer's control panel menu or the HP website. If an update is available, download and install it following the on-screen instructions. Updating the firmware can often address underlying software bugs and improve overall performance.
If none of the above methods resolve the issue with your HP printer, it may be time to seek assistance from HP support professionals. Visit the HP support website or contact their customer service hotline for personalized troubleshooting guidance. They may be able to provide additional solutions or arrange for repairs if necessary.
HP printers are renowned for their reliability and quality, but like any technology, they can encounter issues from time to time. Whether it's a connectivity problem, paper jam, or printing errors, dealing with printer problems can be frustrating. However, there's no need to panic. With the right troubleshooting techniques, you can often resolve these issues quickly and get your printer back in working order. In this article, we'll explore 8 effective methods to fix common HP printer problems.
The first step in troubleshooting any printer problem is to check the connections. Ensure that the printer is properly connected to the power source and that all cables are securely plugged in. Also, verify the connection between the printer and your computer or network. Sometimes, a loose or faulty connection can cause printing issues.
It may sound simple, but restarting your printer can often resolve many common problems. Turn off the printer, wait for a few seconds, and then turn it back on. This action can clear temporary glitches and reset the printer's internal components, potentially resolving the issue.
Outdated or corrupt printer drivers can cause various issues, including printing errors and connectivity problems. To fix this, visit the HP website and download the latest drivers for your printer model. Install the updates on your computer, and then restart both your computer and the printer to apply the changes.
Paper jams are a common issue that can disrupt printing tasks. If your HP printer is experiencing frequent paper jams, carefully remove any jammed paper from the input and output trays. Refer to your printer's manual for specific instructions on how to clear paper jams safely. Once the jam is cleared, try printing again to see if the problem persists.
Most operating systems, including Windows and macOS, come with built-in printer troubleshooters that can help identify and fix common printer problems automatically. Run the printer troubleshooter on your computer and follow the on-screen instructions to diagnose and resolve any issues detected.
If your HP printer is producing faded or streaky prints, it may be running low on ink or toner. Check the ink or toner levels through the printer's control panel or using the HP Smart app. If the levels are low, replace the cartridges with new ones to ensure high-quality prints.
Over time, dust, ink residue, and other debris can accumulate on the printer heads, affecting print quality. Use the printer's maintenance tools or utility software to clean the printer heads regularly. This simple maintenance task can help improve print clarity and reduce the likelihood of printing issues.
If you've tried all the troubleshooting methods above and are still experiencing problems with your HP printer, it may be time to seek professional assistance. Contact HP customer support for expert guidance and assistance in resolving complex printer issues. HP's support team can provide personalized solutions based on your specific printer model and the nature of the problem.
If your HP printer is showing as offline, try these quick fixes:
Ensure the printer is properly connected to WiFi or via USB.
Power off the printer, computer, and router, then turn them back on.
In Windows, go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers, right-click your HP printer, and select Set as default printer.
Open the printer queue, click Printer, and uncheck Use Printer Offline.
Visit HP’s website to download and install the latest printer drivers.
An HP printer enters an error state when it detects a problem that stops normal printing. Typical causes include:
Paper jam or misaligned paper
Low, empty, or faulty ink/toner cartridges
Carriage jam or printhead obstruction
Connectivity issues (Wi-Fi, USB, or network)
Outdated firmware, drivers, or temporary software glitches
Sensor or hardware faults
Turn off the printer, unplug the power cord, and wait 60 seconds. Plug it back in and turn it on. Restart your computer as well. This clears temporary glitches and is often the quickest fix.
Open all access doors and trays. Gently remove any jammed, torn, or stuck paper. Make sure paper is loaded correctly and within the guides. Close everything securely and try printing a test page.
Open the HP Smart app or check the printer display for ink levels. Replace any empty or low cartridges with genuine HP ones. Reseat the cartridges firmly if they appear properly installed but still show errors.
Use the HP Smart app or visit HP’s support website to update the printer firmware and install the latest drivers. For wireless printers, re-run the Wi-Fi setup. For USB, try a different cable or port. Ensure the printer is online and selected as the default device.
Look up the hard-reset method for your exact HP model (usually involves holding specific buttons while powering on). Alternatively, use the printer’s control panel or HP Smart app to perform a factory reset, then reconfigure settings.
If the error code persists after these steps, note the exact code and contact HP Support or a service center, as it may indicate a hardware issue.
Connecting your HP printer to Wi-Fi can streamline your printing process, allowing you to print from multiple devices without the hassle of cords and cables. Whether you’re setting up a new printer or switching to a new Wi-Fi network, this guide will walk you through the steps to get your HP printer wirelessly connected in no time.
Before diving into the steps, let’s look at a few benefits of connecting your HP printer to a wireless network:
Print from anywhere: Whether you're in the same room or across the house, wireless printing gives you the flexibility to print from any connected device.
Supports multiple devices: Wi-Fi printers can be accessed by multiple devices at once, including laptops, smartphones, and tablets.
Eliminates clutter: Say goodbye to messy cables and tangled cords with a cleaner, wire-free setup.
Before you begin the setup, make sure you have the following:
A wireless HP printer (with Wi-Fi capability)
An active Wi-Fi network (with SSID and password)
A computer or mobile device connected to the same network
HP Smart app (recommended for easy setup)
The HP Smart app simplifies the setup process and is available for Windows, macOS, iOS, and Android.
Go to 123.hp.com and download the app for your device.
Install and open the HP Smart app.
Turn on your printer and make sure it’s in Wi-Fi setup mode.
On most HP printers, press the Wireless button or Wi-Fi icon until the light starts blinking.
For touchscreen models, go to Wireless Settings > Restore Network Settings to enable setup mode.
Open HP Smart and click “+” to add a new printer.
The app will search for printers in setup mode.
Select your printer from the list.
Enter your Wi-Fi credentials when prompted.
Wait for the printer to connect. The wireless light will become solid once connected.
You can now print a test page or alignment page to confirm the connection.
If you prefer not to use an app, many HP printers allow direct Wi-Fi setup via their touchscreen.
Make sure your HP printer is powered on and idle.
On the printer’s touchscreen, go to Settings > Network > Wireless Setup Wizard.
The printer will scan for available networks.
Select your Wi-Fi network (SSID) from the list.
Enter your Wi-Fi password using the touchscreen keyboard.
Once the password is accepted, the printer will connect to the network.
A confirmation message or a solid blue Wi-Fi icon will appear.
If your router supports WPS, this is one of the quickest ways to connect your HP printer.
Press and hold the Wi-Fi button on your printer until it starts blinking.
Within two minutes, press the WPS button on your router.
Wait for the Wi-Fi light on the printer to become solid. This confirms a successful connection.
Note: WPS only works with compatible routers and does not require a password.
