Welcome to A Level History!

If you’re interested in how the world became what it is today, our modern A Level History course is for you. We study a wide range of topics including political, economic, social, cultural and military history. You will study everything from the development of the women’s liberation movement to the role of television in changing our attitudes. The course is wide ranging, fast paced and really interesting.

This transition work will help you to understand the content of the course in greater detail and give you an opportunity to practice some A level standard work.

If you have any questions about the work or would like to discuss the course in more detail, please don't hesitate to contact me at alex.edwards@hartlepoolsixth.ac.uk

Get Ahead in History

It is really helpful for your study of the course if you understand the nature of American society in the 20th century, its culture, attitudes and how it functioned - politically and socially.

I have set you two tasks to enable you to do this, bring this work with you to our first lesson in September and be prepared to discuss what you completed with your new classmates.

Please take your time with these tasks and try to make sure you understand everything. A level is much more detailed than GCSE and you should take the time to really think about the work you're completing.

Task one: Presidents of the United States

A key element of our course is the study of US Presidents who served in the later 20th century.

Task two: The Civil Rights Movement

The other central element of our study is the Civil Rights Movement 1955-92.
