In addition to the academic aspect of the workshop, there will be a separate panel (max. 60 min.) dedicated to public engagement. Stakeholders from different walks of life (such as NGOs, school-teachers or students engaged or planning to engage in social work) are welcome to send submissions on the conference theme for sharing their experiences and knowledge vis-a-vis minority languages, migration and endangerment. These contributions should be of around 10 minutes.
The purpose of the public engagement panel is to discuss:
(a) how language can be used as a tool of discrimination and
(b) the best practices we can take to foster integration and to counter language-based discrimination.
We aim to find out to what extent insights from these stakeholders on real-life linguistic practices can be used for academic research and vice-versa.
Funding for travel is available for one stakeholder each from:
(i) the UK (max. £125)
(ii) Germany (max. £300)
(iii) a German-speaking country or region (e.g. Austria/Switzerland/Luxembourg/Belgium/Bolzano/elsewhere in Europe) (max. £300)
Stakeholders interested are welcome to send a brief concept note (200–300 words) to Abhimanyu Sharma at < aks71@cam.ac.uk >
Note: Cheaper, yet sustainable travel option preferred. Funding includes only travel and does not include subsistence or accommodation.
