Gonca Erdemci-Tandogan

I am a biophysicist. From a broad perspective, I am interested in physical descriptions of biological processes from tissue mechanics to viruses. In Quantitive Morphogenesis Lab of Rodrigo Fernandez-Gonzalez at the University of Toronto, I am working on the mechanical regulation of cell shapes and coordination during wound repair and morphogenesis in the fruit fly embryo using theoretical and computational techniques. Previously, I investigated the mechanisms underlying the tissue and organ formation examining the left-right organizer of the Zebrafish embryo as a postdoctoral associate at Syracuse University in the group of Lisa Manning. I completed my Ph.D. studies in Roya Zandi’s group at the University of California, Riverside. My dissertation focused on energetics and structure of viruses using the methods of polymer physics and analytical/numerical techniques.
