2) An earth embankment is to be compacted to density of 20 kN/m³ at a moisture content of 15%. The in-situ bulk density and water content of the borrow pit are 18 kN/m³ and 10% respectively. How much excavation should be carried out from the borrow pit for each m3 of embankment ?

TIP: Borrow pit (Pit from where the soil is taken to make embankment) and embankment have different densities, which means the soil from borrow pit will occupy different amount of space (Volume) in the embankment at density of 19 kN/m³.
