George Tsai

I am Professor of Philosophy at University of Hawaii at Mānoa, and Faculty Affiliate in the Center for Chinese Studies.

I have broad research interests in ethics, moral psychology, and political philosophy. My work addresses questions in both Western and Chinese Philosophy, contemporary and historical. 

My B.A. (Economics and Moral & Political Thought double major) is from Amherst College, and my Ph.D. in Philosophy is from the University of California, Berkeley. In between, I was a Philosophy M.A. student at Stanford.

Previously, I was a Dissertation Fellow at the University of Richmond (2010-11), Visiting Assistant Professor at Scripps College (2011-12), Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the School of Philosophy at the Australian National University (2013-14), and Visiting Fellow at the Center for Advanced Studies of the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München, in the "Relationships in Transition: Normative Challenges" Research Group (2021).
