My name is George Stain, I am a PhD Student in Linguistics at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. My research interests are language variation, phonology, and Black language.
I grew up in Albany, NY, and attended Dartmouth College as an undergraduate student. During my time there, I returned to Albany and conducted a sociophonetic survey of African American English in Albany, culminating in my undergraduate thesis, Bl[æ]ck [ɔ]lbany: A sociolinguistic study of the vowel systems of African American English in Albany, NY.
