"The Hungry Alligator" - Using a deck of cards, the focus of this game is on comparing numbers and identifying the larger number. In addition, students will practice using tally marks to record their points. The object of the game is to be the first person to get 15 points. Players score points by having a larger number than their opponent. Players will split the deck of cards into equal piles, and flip over the top card at the same time. The player who has the higher number on their card will add a tally mark to their scoresheet.
High/Low Place Value Game - Remove face cards and deal a deck of cards evenly among the players. During each round, players choose high or low and then flip over two cards each. If the choice was high, players arrange their cards to make a higher number where each number represents either tens or ones (e.g. a two and a seven, make the number 72 instead of 27). If the choice was low, players arrange their cards to make a lower number where each number represents either tens or ones (e.g. a two and a seven, make the number 27 instead of 72). The player who can make the higher number if the choice was high (or lower number if the choice was low) wins and keeps all of the cards from that round.
