PhD Candidate and Durham Doctoral Teaching Fellow Durham University
George Cheatle is a PhD candidate in Economics at Durham University and a recipient of the Durham Doctoral Teaching Fellowship (DDTF). He holds a BA (Hons) in Economics and an MSc in Economics, both from Durham.
His research applies machine learning and textual analysis to financial markets, with a particular focus on developing asset pricing frameworks and trading signals relevant to hedge funds and institutional investors. His doctoral work constructs new measures of monetary and fiscal policy stance using central bank and government communications, integrating these into predictive models of equity market returns. He also investigates investor sentiment, retail trading dynamics, and the role of weak factors in asset pricing.
George contributes to teaching at Durham, supporting undergraduate and postgraduate courses in economics, quantitative methods, and data analysis.
