Service

One aspect of being in academia that I sincerely enjoy is the opportunity to mentor and provide professional development to students. Some ways in which I've already done this can be seen below, in addition to other service that I've done.

Service at UNL:

  • In Fall 2018, I started the Mathematics Graduate Mentoring program, which paired older graduate students with incoming first-year graduate students as a way to support first-year graduate students in their transition to graduate school.

    • For this, I received the Amy Bouska GTA Leadership Award.

    • After serving as a coordinator for the first year, I participated as a mentor during the following two academic years.

  • I co-organized orientation for new incoming math graduate students for the 2018-2019 and 2019-2020 academic years. During this orientation, I also lead professional development workshops on how to be a thoughtful and fair grader.

  • I mentored an undergraduate student in a Directed Reading Program started in Fall 2020 at UNL on a project about posets.

  • I taught a course on bijective combinatorics for the All Girls/All Math Summer Camp in the summer of 2019, a one-week-long camp for high school girls with advanced mathematics backgrounds to learn higher-level math.

  • I volunteered a couple times to help with the Nebraska Conference for Undergraduate Women in Mathematics, hosted annually by UNL.

  • When I convened College Algebra, I regularly met with College Algebra instructors (most of whom are first-time instructors) to discuss teaching strategies and to brainstorm how to navigate certain classroom challenges.

  • I co-organized the Discrete Math Seminar, a weekly seminar, with Adam Volk during the 2020–2021 academic year.
