Accessing the materials from the former geogspace.net.au website
The resources on this site are provided by AGTA to support the original GeogSpace website. The GeogSpace project was an initiative of the Australian Geography Teachers Association (AGTA) supported by the resources of Education Services Australia (ESA) and funded by the Australian Government Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations. After the revision of the Australian Curriculum: Geography to version 8.4, most of the links provided in the original GeogSpace website no longer functioned correctly. The materials here relate to version 8.4 of the Australian Curriculum.
As you will know, the Australian Curriculum has been updated to Version 9. The materials presented here may no longer align with the current curriculum, but we are ensuring the materials remain available because of their value to geography teachers. Please note that you may need to use your professional judgement in aligning the resources to V9 or to the curriculum that you use in your state or territory. At this time, it is not intended that the Geogspace resources be updated to V9, and if that changes we will amend this site accordingly.
The Geogspace.net.au website no longer functions, and the materials have been shifted to a shared Google Drive that can be accessed via this site.
There are two sections - Core Units and Support Units.
Core units comprise illustrations of practice for stages of schooling described in V8.4 of the Australian Curriculum: Geography. The illustrations are provided for:
Years F-4 (Note: under development. Please access the archive on the Wayback Machine).
Years 5 & 6
Years 7 & 8
and Years 9 & 10
The illustrations are designed to provide classroom-ready ideas and resources that reflect the dynamism of this exciting learning area. Each illustration is linked to the Australian Curriculum: Geography and provides opportunities for students to actively engage in learning, whether it be through undertaking class research, practical activities, field investigations or through taking local action.
Core units have three sections for each of the stages of schooling:
Key understandings
Inquiry and skills
Exemplars
Support units provide illustrations of practice designed to support teachers' professional learning and provide guidance, information and resources in eight areas of geographical education:
Thinking geographically
Why teach geography?
Professional practice
Fieldwork
ICTs in geography
Assessment in geography
Language of geography
Geographical inquiry
