If you want active noise cancellation and a dedicated media player for calls, choose Generic YX35; if you need an open-ear design that keeps your surroundings audible during long conversations, choose Micool Open Ear Headphones.
• Generic YX35: Delivers immersive isolation with Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) and a unique speaker-enabled charging case, but its in-ear fit may not suit those who need to hear traffic or office chatter. Best for travelers and commuters seeking total focus during calls.
• Micool Open Ear Headphones: Offers a secure, non-in-ear clip design that prevents ear fatigue while maintaining situational awareness, though it lacks the deep bass isolation of traditional sealed buds. Best for runners, cyclists, and all-day wearers prioritizing comfort and safety.
The Generic YX35 is built for the user who treats their headphones as a primary communication hub and a portable music station. The defining feature here is the dual-layer noise protection strategy. It combines Adaptive Noise Cancellation (ANC) to block out ambient chaos—like airplane hums or busy train cars—with Environmental Noise Cancellation (ENC) specifically tuned for call clarity. If your primary use case involves taking work calls in loud environments, this device is engineered to ensure your voice cuts through the din without you needing to shout. The 32-ohm impedance suggests a driver setup designed for rich audio reproduction, which pairs well with the ANC to create a focused listening bubble.
What truly sets this unit apart from standard wireless earbuds is the versatility of its ecosystem. The charging case isn't just a battery pack; it features a built-in speaker that instantly transforms into a portable Bluetooth speaker. This is a game-changer for group settings or when you need to share audio without handing off a single bud. Furthermore, the inclusion of a TF card slot and MP3 player functionality means you aren't entirely dependent on your phone's storage or data connection. You can manage files directly via USB through the integrated card reader, making it a robust standalone device for offline media consumption.

However, the trade-off lies in the form factor. As an in-ear model with soft silicone eartips, it relies on a seal to function effectively. While this provides the physical barrier necessary for the ANC to work, it also creates pressure for some users over extended periods. If you have sensitive ears or prefer to feel air circulating around your ear canal, the YX35 might feel too restrictive after several hours. Additionally, the reliance on a tight seal means you will be isolated from your environment, which can be a safety concern if you are walking near moving vehicles or need to hear colleagues calling your name.
The Micool Open Ear Headphones cater to a completely different demographic: the person who refuses to compromise on situational awareness. By utilizing an "open ear clip" design rather than inserting anything into the ear canal, these earbuds eliminate the feeling of blockage entirely. This makes them ideal for anyone who needs to stay alert to their surroundings while still enjoying high-fidelity sound. The design rests on the outer ear, using a lightweight frame to stay secure without the discomfort often associated with heavy over-ear cans or intrusive in-ear tips. This specific construction ensures that even during marathon sessions, there is no ear fatigue, making it a standout choice for "all-day wear."
For the professional who takes frequent calls, the Micool model integrates ENC technology to handle background noise reduction. While it cannot physically block out the world like the YX35, the ENC processing helps isolate your voice from wind and ambient chatter, ensuring high-definition call quality. The Bluetooth 5.4 connectivity supports ultra-low latency, which is critical for video calls where lip-sync matters. You won't experience that annoying delay between what you see on a screen and what you hear. The Hi-Fi sound profile is tuned to deliver rich details, proving that you don't need a sealed chamber to get good audio fidelity.
The trade-off here is clear: you sacrifice passive noise isolation. Because the drivers sit outside the ear canal, bass response might feel less punchy compared to sealed in-ear models, and external sounds will naturally bleed into your audio experience. You cannot turn up the volume to drown out a noisy café unless you crank it uncomfortably high. Furthermore, the water resistance level is noted as "Water Resistant" rather than fully waterproof, so while they can handle sweat and light rain, they aren't built for submersion. If your priority is absolute silence and maximum noise rejection, this open design will let too much of the world in.
• Best for calls in noisy environments → Generic YX35. The combination of ANC and ENC provides a superior signal-to-noise ratio by actively canceling out the background before it reaches your ears, whereas the Micool relies solely on software processing.
• Best for safety and awareness → Micool Open Ear Headphones. The open-clip design ensures you never miss a car horn, a coworker, or a public announcement, making it the safer choice for outdoor activities.
• Best for battery life and portability → Generic YX35. With a massive 450mAh case offering 30 hours of total playtime and a 6-hour single charge, plus the added utility of a built-in speaker, it offers more functional longevity than the 250mAh case of the Micool.
• Best for extended comfort → Micool Open Ear Headphones. If you suffer from ear canal sensitivity or wear glasses, the non-in-ear clip design eliminates the pressure points that the silicone tips of the YX35 create.
• Best for standalone media usage → Generic YX35. The TF card slot and USB card reader allow you to listen to music without a phone, a feature the Micool lacks entirely.
• Best for gaming and video sync → Micool Open Ear Headphones. The explicit mention of ultra-low latency in the specs makes it the stronger candidate for watching movies or playing games where timing is everything.
• Best for multi-device switching → Both, but the YX35 offers slightly broader compatibility with PC and tablets via its 15-meter range and direct file management capabilities.
• Best value for features → Generic YX35. It packs a touchscreen, a speaker, a card reader, and dual noise cancellation into one package, offering significantly more hardware utility than the Micool.
In my opinion, I would choose the Generic YX35 for most users, especially those looking for the best headset for calls in varied environments. The ability to switch between a silent, noise-canceling mode and a shared speaker mode gives it a flexibility that the open-ear design simply cannot match. While the Micool is excellent for gym-goers or cyclists who need to hear the street, the YX35 solves the actual problem of hearing clearly over noise. For general daily use, commuting, and work calls, the active noise cancellation and the extra battery capacity make it the more practical investment.
Neither is explicitly marketed as a sleep headphone, but the generic YX35's in-ear design might be uncomfortable for side sleepers due to the bulk of the buds, while the Micool's clip design could dig into the pillow. Neither is optimized for lying down.
Yes, both the Generic YX35 and the Micool Open Ear Headphones utilize Bluetooth 5.4 technology, ensuring faster pairing, lower power consumption, and a stable connection range of up to 15 meters.
The Generic YX35 likely has an edge due to its dual ANC/ENC system which actively processes noise, whereas the Micool relies on ENC alone. However, the open design of the Micool might let more wind noise bypass the microphone compared to the sealed YX35.
You can use the Generic YX35 as a standalone MP3 player with a TF card inserted, allowing you to listen to music directly from the buds without a phone. The Micool requires a connected Bluetooth source.
