If you want a dedicated tool for professional audio calibration and pure analog signal integrity on your PC or console, choose Generic Sonicast direm E3; if you need a versatile hybrid driver setup with premium cabling and a detachable design for high-fidelity music listening, choose Surfans M10.
• Generic Sonicast direm E3: Delivers the world's first reference standard tuning for creators, but lacks the modular flexibility of replaceable cables or drivers.
• Surfans M10: Offers a balanced 1DD+1BA hybrid sound signature with a premium silver-plated cable, though it requires more ear tip fitting to achieve isolation.
• The Pick for Creators: Choose the Sonicast direm E3 if you are editing audio or gaming and need uncolored, studio-grade monitoring.
• The Pick for Audiophiles: Choose the Surfans M10 if you prioritize detailed instrument separation and a future-proof design for your music collection.
The Sonicast direm E3 is built for a specific type of listener who prioritizes accuracy over entertainment. It positions itself as the first earphone to meet a professional sound reference standard, which makes it an ideal choice for musicians, producers, and engineers who need to hear exactly what is in the mix without any digital distortion or artificial coloring. The core of this performance lies in its Next-Generation SF-DRIVER, a single-unit acoustic engine designed to deliver dynamic range and balance across all frequencies. Unlike consumer gear that might boost bass or treble to sound "fun," the E3 aims for sonic truth, using proprietary ORZA Acoustic Tuning and GAMIN Calibration to ensure precise tonal control.
This product shines when connected to devices like PCs, laptops, PS5s, Switches, or Steam Decks via its 3.5mm jack. Because it relies on a pure analog connection, there is no Digital-to-Analog Converter (DAC) required inside the earbud itself, meaning the signal remains untouched from the source to your ear. This is particularly valuable for low latency scenarios, such as competitive gaming or video editing, where timing and clarity are paramount. The fabric-wrapped cable is not just aesthetic; it is engineered to be tangle-resistant and durable enough for daily studio use or travel, ensuring the device can withstand the rigors of being packed into a bag or used in a busy environment.

However, the E3 is not for everyone. If you are looking for wireless freedom or active noise cancellation, this wired solution will feel restrictive. Furthermore, because it utilizes a single-driver architecture tuned specifically for reference standards, listeners who prefer a heavy, thumping bass response typical of modern pop or hip-hop might find the sound too clinical. It is best suited for those who understand that sometimes less processing means better results, and who are willing to trade convenience for the highest fidelity possible in a wired package.
The Surfans M10 takes a different approach by combining two distinct types of drivers to create a rich, layered listening experience. By pairing a 9.2mm nano-composite dynamic driver with a balanced armature unit, the M10 manages to offer controlled bass body alongside clear vocals and detailed highs. This hybrid configuration is excellent for anyone who listens to a wide variety of genres and wants every instrument to stand out clearly in the mix. Whether you are practicing an instrument, doing home-studio monitoring, or simply enjoying a complex album, the M10 ensures that the separation between sounds remains crisp and defined.
What sets the M10 apart immediately is the inclusion of a 4-core silver-plated OCC (Single Crystal Copper) cable right out of the box. Many competitors treat high-quality cables as expensive add-ons, but Surfans includes this upgrade-level wire as standard. This ensures clean, stable signal transmission that supports the delicate nuances of the hybrid drivers. Additionally, the earpieces weigh only about 5 grams each, featuring an ergonomic over-ear shape that helps keep them secure in your ears during movement. The transparent shell adds a refined visual element, while the detachable 0.78mm 2-pin design means you can swap cables in the future if you ever want to experiment with different connectors or materials, extending the life of the earphones significantly.
For travelers or commuters, the M10 offers passive sound isolation through six pairs of included silicone and foam ear tips. This allows users to create a tight seal that blocks out outside distractions, making it a strong contender for use on planes or trains. However, achieving that perfect seal requires some trial and error with the different tip sizes provided. While the impedance is low at 20 ohms and sensitivity is high at 106dB, meaning it works well with phones and laptops, it truly comes alive when paired with portable DACs or DAPs (Digital Audio Players). If you value a system that grows with you—where you can change cables or accessories—the M10 is a much more adaptable investment than a fixed-cable model.

In my opinion, I would buy the Surfans M10 for general use because the hybrid driver design and included premium cable offer a more engaging and versatile listening experience for music lovers. The ability to swap cables later gives it a longevity that the fixed-cable Sonicast direm E3 cannot match. However, if you are specifically looking for low latency earbuds for airplane travel or need a dedicated monitoring tool for audio work where absolute neutrality is required, the Sonicast direm E3 is the superior technical choice. Ultimately, the M10 wins on versatility and build quality, making it the better all-around purchase for most people.
Both models are wired, so they require a compatible adapter or device with a 3.5mm jack. The Surfans M10 is often preferred for travel due to its included carrying case and superior passive isolation capabilities with multiple ear tip options, which help block out cabin noise effectively.
No, the Surfans M10 has a sensitivity of 106dB and an impedance of 20 ohms, meaning it is easy to drive and will produce loud, clear sound directly from most smartphones, laptops, or portable players without needing a separate amplifier.
The Generic Sonicast direm E3 is explicitly tuned to a professional reference standard, making it the stronger candidate for critical listening where accuracy and lack of coloration are the top priorities.
You can replace the cable on the Surfans M10 because it uses a detachable 0.78mm 2-pin connection, whereas the Generic Sonicast direm E3 features a fixed cable that cannot be swapped out if damaged.
