This study aims to understand what waiting for surgery is like, and offer trans and gender diverse Australians who are seeking or have received care a chance to have their voices heard. Taking part involves a chance to participate in semi-structured interviews and focus groups, to understand common lived experiences, perceived and actual barriers to accessing care, and the goals of those seeking surgery.

This study aims to understand the clinical effectiveness of gender affirming surgery in terms of improving Health Related Quality of Life. This study will match individuals having received surgery and those seeking it and compare their quality of life to understand how surgery can impact health and wellbeing. Quality of life will be assessed using the GENDER-Q and EQ5D Patient Reported Outcome Measures. These tools will help the researchers determine the impact of gender affirming surgery on changes in health, clinical effectiveness, and health outcomes of those who do and do not access surgery.
This study aims to provide high-quality prospective evidence to determine the health benefits of gender affirming surgery. (Ethical approval: SALHN: 2025/HRE00341, Flinders University project ID 9380)

One of our gender diverse lived experience researchers felt it was important to find out why doctors choose or don’t choose to be involved in trans healthcare and in gender surgery. Hence we designed and launched this important survey study with the help of the Australian Society of Plastic Surgeons.
This study aims to improve understanding of surgeons' and surgeons-in-training's baseline understanding of the health needs of the trans and gender diverse population, understand willingness to engage with and provide gender affirming care, and the influence of demographic and economic factors on this. (Ethical approval: SALHN: 2025/HRE00503, Flinders University project ID 9742)
