My practice investigates the fragile line in-between beauty, violence and religious belief through use of organic matters. I take symbols of purity, femininity and life and create unsettling works that have mixed reactions of both repulsion and appeal.

I use mainly floral formations to represent the body and religious symbolism. They originally represent innocence, devotion, and divine creation yet they are corrupted by me peircing, bloodying, decaying and embedding them with teeth. This disrupts their delicacy as I try to reveal the violence hidden beneath 'systems' that present themselves as utterly pure. By taking away things from their natural place I expose how quickly things deemed as 'beautiful' can become grotesque and how something natural can cause us to feel discomfort, fear, and shame.

My work reflects my experience within a religious upbringing where faith felt less like a sanctury and more like alienation to me. In the religious environment I felt unnatural and "not fitting to the standard" of rigid structures in sexuality and morality. My work also points toward the institutional failures within "the church" such as the hypocrisy, silence and damage that society has far too often overlooked and forgiven.

I try to reclaim the language of faith creating corrupt religious iconography. I want to force people to confront religions open wounds and scars, so I create a place where beauty and horror coexist together challenging viewers to reconsider what is sanctified? what is condemned? and Who has the choice on Who gets to belong.
