Effective Date: October 14, 2025
Thank you for using Gemini Writing Assistant ("the Extension"). Your privacy is important to us. This policy explains what information the Extension handles and why.
We do not have a server. We never see or store your data.
All data handled by the Extension is stored locally on your device using the chrome.storage.local API.
We do not track you or collect any personal information, except for the text you voluntarily process.
To provide its features, the Extension needs to handle the following information:
1. User-Provided Text for Processing
What it is: Any text you select, dictate, or type into the extension's playground to be processed by the Gemini API.
Why we handle it: This is the core functionality of the Extension. The text is sent directly from your browser to the Google Generative Language (Gemini) API to be rewritten, translated, or formatted according to your settings.
Where it goes: This text is transmitted to Google's servers for processing. We recommend reviewing Google's API Privacy Policy for more information on how they handle data. The processed text is then returned to your browser. We do not store the processed (output) text.
2. Your Gemini API Key
What it is: The personal API key you provide to authorize requests to the Gemini API.
Why we handle it: The API key is required to make authenticated calls to the Gemini API on your behalf.
Where it is stored: Your API key is stored only on your local device using the secure chrome.storage.local system. It is never transmitted to us or any other third party. For security, we strongly recommend creating a new, restricted API key specifically for this extension and not reusing it elsewhere.
3. Extension Settings and History
What they are: Your preferences such as language, output style, and whether sounds are enabled. The Extension also stores a history of your original, unprocessed inputs and a list of websites where you have enabled the extension.
Why we handle it: These are stored for your convenience, so you don't have to re-configure the extension every time you use it and can easily access your past inputs.
Where it is stored: All settings and history are stored only on your local device using chrome.storage.local.
4. Anonymous API Usage Statistics
What it is: A simple count of how many API calls you have made ("Today" and "Total").
Why we handle it: This is shown to you in the popup for your own reference to monitor your usage.
Where it is stored: This data is stored only on your local device. We do not collect or view this information.
We do not sell, trade, or rent your information to others. The only instance of data sharing is the necessary transmission of your input text to the Google Generative Language API, which is required for the extension to function.
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. We encourage you to review it periodically.
