If you want a complete, ready-to-use proportional brake controller for towing that includes self-diagnostic LED displays and seamless installation, choose GEARCESS 90160; if you need a dedicated mounting bracket to secure an existing Tekonsha Primus IQ unit inside your vehicle, choose splash n color SplashNColor Brake Controller.
• GEARCESS 90160: Its greatest strength is the all-in-one proportional braking system with real-time self-diagnostics, but it requires a separate vehicle-specific harness for Ford or GM models. This pick is for drivers who need a full replacement unit to replace their old controller.
• splash n color SplashNColor Brake Controller: Its biggest advantage is providing a secure, custom-fit location for controllers that are currently loose, though it does not include the actual braking electronics or hardware. This pick is for owners of existing Tekonsha Primus IQ units who just need a stable mount.
The GEARCESS 90160 is engineered as a direct replacement solution for drivers who need to upgrade or replace a failing trailer brake controller. At its core, this device utilizes internal inertia sensors to automatically match the braking intensity of your tow vehicle. This means the unit delivers seamless stopping power without requiring manual adjustments for every trip. Whether you are hauling a light 2-axle trailer or a heavier 3-axle setup, the proportional braking technology adjusts in real-time to ensure safe, controlled stops. The design focuses on reliability, supporting up to six brakes across three axles, which covers the vast majority of recreational and utility trailers found on North American roads.
One of the most critical features for anyone serious about towing safety is the real-time LED self-diagnostics system. Unlike older analog gauges that simply show a setting, this display actively alerts you to wiring faults or connection issues before you even hit the road. This proactive approach helps prevent the frustrating "ground issue" installation failures that plague older model trucks. You get a clear visual confirmation of your settings and system health, giving you peace of mind that the electrical connection is solid. The compact design allows for easy removal when not in use, keeping your dashboard clean and free of clutter.
This product is specifically designed for drivers looking to replace their entire braking unit rather than just securing a loose one. It fits a wide range of vehicles including Ford, GM, Chevy, Dodge, RAM, Toyota, and Jeep, serving as a universal fit for many popular truck platforms. However, buyers should be aware that while the unit itself is plug-and-play with a snap-in dash clip, the specific vehicle harness required for some brands like Ford or GM must be purchased separately. If you are someone who needs a fully functional electronic brake controller that handles the logic of braking for you, this is the comprehensive package you need. It is ideal for those who want to avoid the hassle of installing individual components and prefer a single unit that manages the complex interplay between vehicle speed and trailer weight.

The splash n color SplashNColor Brake Controller serves a very different purpose: it is a structural support component, not an active braking device. If you already own a Tekonsha Primus IQ or a compatible controller that feels loose, wobbly, or is stored haphazardly among your gear, this bracket provides the necessary stability. A loose trailer brake controller has no place in a proper towing setup, as movement can distract the driver or damage the unit during transit. This plastic part is designed to hold your controller securely in a dedicated position inside your vehicle, ensuring it stays exactly where you placed it from the moment you head out until you return.
The design philosophy here centers on precision matching. The mounting tabs follow the specific attachment arrangement of the controller they are meant to hold. This ensures that the bracket aligns perfectly with the way your controller is engineered to be held, preventing misalignment or stress on the housing. It transforms a loose object into a fixed part of your interior environment. By giving the controller its own mounted spot, you eliminate the need to search for it or worry about it shifting during sudden stops. This is particularly valuable for drivers who keep their vehicle for daily use but only occasionally tow, as it keeps the equipment organized and ready for immediate deployment.
However, it is crucial to understand what this product is not. It does not contain any electronic components, sensors, or braking mechanisms. It is purely a mechanical fixture. The item details confirm that no hardware is included, meaning you must supply your own screws and fasteners to attach the bracket to your vehicle's interior. The dimensions are listed as 2 x 6 x 4 inches, making it a compact accessory that fits discreetly within the cabin. This product is strictly for those who have already invested in a high-quality brake controller and simply need a reliable way to mount it. It is the perfect solution for a DIY vehicle project where the goal is organization and stability rather than adding new electronic functionality.
