The course is designed to enable learners to appreciate, in broad terms, the societal impact of developments in science and technology at the global and national level. This includes a review of the history of science and technology- for the prehistoric era all the way to today’s advances in science and technology- and similarly in the Philippines, including science policy. The historical survey, which is grounded on an understanding of basic science concepts, will examine how these developments have affected the course of human society, politically, economically, and socially (including culturally).

By the end of the course, students will have developed a nuanced understanding of the complex interactions between science, technology, and society. They will be better prepared to engage in lifelong learning, keep abreast of international developments, and contribute positively to their communities and professional fields. This course ultimately aims to produce well-rounded graduates who can navigate and address the challenges of the modern world with ethical and informed perspectives.
