While almost always very small, the planets are bright enough to be notable points of interest in the night sky, and can be found with relative ease.
The planets relationships within the Solar System and their orbits provide interesting topics to research that can be easily seen by an observer on Earth with a small telescope.
The planets would also be a great place to start for stargazing events on campus, since their orbits regularly create interesting phenomenon: whether it's a transit, a notable maximum brightness, or oppositions, it would not be difficult to find an event worth seeing and capitalizing on it to gain interest in astronomy.
