Equipment Set Up
Minimum requirements - a good internet connection and either a laptop or tablet.
Please reboot your laptop or tablet before the lesson for optimal performance.
Before each lesson there are two links to click on. These two links are unique to the student and won't change between lessons so you can save them to your browser favourites so they can be easily found.
You can find the links either in the calendar invite or in the email I send out once a lesson is confirmed
One link launches my Microsoft Teams classroom which we will use for video calls. Once you click the link you may be prompted to download Microsoft Teams App onto your device if it's not already installed. This only happens the first time you use Microsoft Teams, however, as all the other times you will be taken straight to the classroom "waiting room" and I can then let you in. If you already use Microsoft Teams please log out before clicking the link
The other link is to Bitpaper, which is an online whiteboard. When clicked this link will display Bitpaper directly in a browser window. Tutor and Student can then both write directly onto the shared Bitpaper whiteboard using either a mouse or a touchscreen pen and we can see each others writings
As a pencil (or finger!) is easier to write with than a mouse the ideal set up is to have Microsoft Teams (for communication) running on a laptop and Bitpaper (for writing) running on a tablet. This is only ideal however, as most of my students don’t have access to both a tablet and a laptop which is fine as I can work with your existing equipment!
At the end of the lesson the Bitpaper session is saved and distributed as an email to the students parent or guardian so they can see what was covered
Whilst any scientific calculator will suffice, one of the most popular calculators for GCSE and the one I use is Casio FX-83GTCW. Tuition in getting the best from this calculator is included in my lessons.
