Gemma Crowe

Graduation 2022, after a 2 year Covid delay

I am a final year PhD student in Mathematics at Heriot Watt University, under the supervision of Laura Ciobanu. My research interests are combinatorial and geometric group theory, in particular decision problems in groups and extensions, conjugacy growth and formal language theory.

In June 2020 I graduated from the University of St Andrews with a first class Masters degree (Honours) in Pure Mathematics. During my final year, I wrote a dissertation entitled 'Applications of Combinatorial Group Theory to Information Security Systems', which can be found here.

Last year I was a joint organiser of the GEARS seminar; an algebra seminar series for PhD students and post-docs from Glasgow, Edinburgh and Heriot-Watt universities.
