For this project, we were supposed to take a black and white picture of ourselves and cut it in half. Then, we drew in the other half with pencil, matching it as best as we could. We also had to draw in the background so that both sides matched. Here is the finished product!

We were given a scratch board for this project and told to scratch out an animal of our choosing. I chose to scratch a fox. I pulled up a picture of a fox and copied it by scratching into the board. I scratched harder in areas that were darker and lighter in areas that were lighter.

I was required to take a photo of one or two people and edit the photo to have the "pop art" look (where you can see all the values). I decided on this photo of my mom and me. First, I drew my photo on the paper, and then I painted the sections their different shades of blue.

This project required me to make a "double pinch pot rattle creature." Basically, I created two pinch pots out of clay and connected them together to make a sphere with a hollow center. Before I connected them all the way, I put a few small clay balls inside the pinch pot sphere so that they would rattle in the finished product. I also had to add a hole somewhere (I put mine as the blow hole) so the air bubble inside would not explode in the kiln! Then, I was required to somehow make this pinch pot oval into an animal. I chose to make mine into a narwhal, adding a tail, flippers, eyes, and a horn! The clay was fired and finished by painting!
3D Design, Fall 2022
My assignment was to choose a historically famous work of art and design various layers of cardboard to make the work 3-D. I chose the work by Jean-Honoré Fragonard called The Swing. I began by making a plan of how pieces would stack to create more layers. Next, I had to precisely cut the cardboard, add the correct color to portray the work of art, and specifically place and glue the pieces. This one took a lot of time!

For this project, I chose what object I wanted cut out of the middle, which was a deer. Then, I made multiple sections to draw different zentangle patterns in. It took multiple class periods to draw all of the zentangle and then were were told to add a bit of color. Then, I glued my zentangle to a big sheet of colored construction paper!

For this project, I had to use the Japanese paper-marbling technique called Suminagashi to add a colored background to the scroll. I also had to have a visual design and calligraphy of Japanese words on top of the Sumi ink background. I chose to make my scroll all about the seasons of the Earth. Each of the Japanese symbols represents which season it is, and the symbol in the middle stands for "seasons." The top left is "winter," the top right is "spring," the bottom left is "autumn," and the bottom right is "summer".

This project required me to choose 3 words from a hat and create a piece of art based on them. The words I chose from the bucket were love, phone, and tank. The artwork was supposed to portray some sort of social unrest. I made my social unrest about how people now are so in love with their phones that they rely on them for everything. So, I made a fish tank that is falling apart because the electronic system is failing.

In this project, I used a needle and thread to create a shape of my choice. I chose to do a fox. The requirements for this project were to have a symmetrical design, have 50 total holes, and have 10 of those holes be used more than once. We were also encouraged to use different colors, so I used orange, white, and black!

Book Sculpture
3D Design I, Fall 2022
This assignment was to create a book sculpture with these requirements:
it must stand on its own
it must be in the round
it must include color, additive media, and subtractive media
For my sculpture, I made a log cabin with a lake. The cabin is additive media, and the lake is subtractive media.
Instructions for Dancing
Self-Led Project, Spring 2022
In my Sophomore Literature Class, I was required to make a visual for the book I read. The book I read was Instructions for Dancing by Nicola Yoon. I made my piece of art look similar to the cover of the book but with a more abstract background and a silhouette of the dancers instead of a realistic photo.
Potter's Wheel Bowl
3D Design 1, Fall 2022
One of my projects in 3D Design was to create a bowl on the potter's wheel. I have had lots of experience with the potter's wheel as I have taken classes at my local art center, where I learned how to throw on the potter's wheel. After I threw my bowl for 3D design, I had to glaze it. I chose to glaze mine with a bold inside color of dark blue and a bit of a calmer outside design of polka dots.
Rainy Day
Self-Led Project, Fall 2022
This art piece had no specific project that went with it. My friend and I were painting together one night, and this is what I decided to paint. This piece is inspired by a couple walking together in the city on a rainy day. If you can't tell, I love to paint silhouettes, and I also enjoy using different perspectives!
In this project, I was required to take a photo of my younger self and draw it as realistically as possible. Since I was still in middle school and hadn't developed the skills needed to draw realistically on my own, I traced most of this out and then added on details. Mine was one of my art teacher's favorites for this project!
Middle School Art, Fall 2019
For this project, I was to take a photo of my house and draw it out. I did not use tracing for this one, instead, I had to measure all the dimensions of my house. It took a lot of time to get some of the 3D aspects of the house correct, but I got there eventually! Another requirement of this project was to include multiple textures. I included brick texture, siding texture, and texture for the grass. Both this project and my younger self-portrait were some of my first realistic drawings!
