Often referred to as Hispanic Heritage Month, Latinx Heritage Month recognize the achievements and contributions of Latinx American champions who have inspired others to achieve success.
Hispanic: Spain, or spanish-speaking countries. The term was first popularized the U.S. Census of 1970. Classifies people based on language
Latino: geographical location of a person's country of origin or their ancestors with cultural ties to Latin America
Latinx and Latine: gender-neutral terms of Latino/a

The month officially begins on the anniversary of independence for five Latin American countries – Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua – all of which declared national sovereignty in 1821. In addition, Mexico, Chile, and Belize celebrate their independence on September 16, 18, and 21 respectively.

Join the California Community Colleges October 17-21 for our sixth Annual Undocumented Student Action Week! The week will feature a series of virtual webinars and on-campus activities to raise awareness about the challenges undocumented students continue to face and will feature solutions that support their educational dreams. These webinars are intended to inform how California Community Colleges and allies can build a strong ecosystem for our students that breaks down silos and promotes a collaborative campus approach to the success of our undocumented students.
These webinars are a collaborative effort of the California Community Colleges Chancellor's Office, the Foundation for California Community Colleges, and the Community College League of California.
