My Stage Manager's Approach this time was smooth and filled with joy. This process was one of the more fun ones I've had in a while. Who knew we could find comedy within a dramatic Marlowe piece? Every rehearsal brought a new life into the text and preparing it for a modern audience was a challenge. A play about breaking the system that's been placed. From German Latin-speaking scholars, to pop culture demons, this show was filled with surprises and made this a memorable last show for me. I have worked with a lot of people within the cast and creative team, so it was comforting to work with this amazing group of people again. We were able to have fun and push our comfort zones. One team that was my #1 support was of course of SM Team. Every show I do, I always vow to have at least a freshman on my team since I was given that opportunity my freshman year. Luckily for me, I was able to do that and work with a friend of mine who is a university employee and who just so happened to be taking Theatre classes during their lunch break. I knew I had a good team in my hands and I couldn't have asked for a better one. There was so much joy, laughter, and love which affected the room every time. They reminded me of when I was in my early SM days and inspired me to continue spreading good vibes no matter how stressful things got. I couldn't thank them enough for helping me continue to evolve as a Stage Manager. By approaching the show with optimism, my leadership set a joyful and fun tone for all involved.
I wish to participate in the regional festival to showcase the work of my team and share my experience of the show. I have grown significantly since last year's festival, and I am eager to discuss it. The process was exhilarating, and it has piqued my interest in Stage Management even more. I want to demonstrate my passion for this project and highlight the importance of teamwork across all departments. I hope to walk away from the festival with more ways to solidify my craft and learn more from my Stage Management community!
As I approach the end of my time in school this semester, I am looking forward to starting my professional career as a stage manager. Throughout my experiences in school, I have learned a lot, and I plan to apply these lessons to my first job in the field. One of my continuous goals is to improve my ability to remain calm and not become overwhelmed when things go wrong. Additionally, I want to make sure that I continue to enjoy my work and have fun while doing it.
This show and my work wouldn't be possible without my knowledgeable mentors, David Coley, Andy Park, Matt Ralph and my fabulous SM Team Becca and MM♡
