With the towering mountain range as the backdrop, Rajiv Gandhi Memorial Government College came into being in 1994 as an institution of higher learning at Joginder Nagar, a sub-division of Mandi District in Himachal Pradesh. Surrounded by the green foliage of several hues and the terraced fields, an ideal pollution-free atmosphere, this institution offers graduation courses in Arts, Commerce, Science (Medical and Non-Medical), B.B.A, B.C.A. and Post Graduation in English and Economics. The college has Administrative Block, Arts Block and Science Block. There are two Computer Labs; one established by college itself and other by the Department of Information and Technology, H.P. Govt. There are two seminar halls including one smart class room.
The College has thirty sanctioned posts of teachers in various subjects along with requisite ministerial and technical staff, well-equipped laboratories updated library with computerized functioning and adequate reading room , suitable sports infrastructure for different games and a playground of the education department with a stadium are some of the highlights. Students can enroll as cadets under NCC or as volunteers under National Service Schemes or as Rovers & Rangers. There is common room facility for girls. Committed to bring about all round development of the alumni, all the wings of administration are focused on motivating the students to discover their talents in extra curricular activities. The students from this college have achieved top positions in cultural events at H.P. University Youth Festival. The college students participated in inter college competitions
