2022 GCC Art Nights
a series of evening art demonstrations
and maker events open to the community
On select Thursday evenings during Fall 2022, Glendale Community College is opening its art studios for community classes. Come join us to experience a variety of maker activities: take a drawing lesson, learn to make a life cast, see how quick design tips can improve your personal art work, take a dive into watercolor painting, or learn to handbuild in clay.
Take one session or sign up for several - each demo is free and open to the public, and materials are provided. Make sure to register so can you reserve your spot and get parking information. Space is limited.

The GCC Halloween
Drawing Marathon
Thursday, October 27th from 6 to 8 pm.
Community drawing lesson at 6:00 pm

Join artist and professor David John Attyah as he leads this year's GCC Halloween Drawing Marathon. Live costumed models, Haloween theming, snacks and a free, no-experience-necessary drawing lesson at 6:00 pm. If you're an established artists, bring your own drawing supplies. If you're new, use our supplies.

Working with Pigment Sticks
Thursday, November 3rd from 6 to 8 pm.
Studio: TG112
Join artist and professor emerita Caryl St. Ama for a demonstration of R & F Pigment Sticks. Pigment sticks are a fast, flexible, color-rich alternative to oil paint and are suited to beginning and advanced artists alike. No experience is necessary and materials are provided. Make sure to wear work clothes.

Casting from Life
Thursday, November 10th from 6 to 9 pm
Studio: Tongva 110
Join artist and professor Kyla Hansen for a demonstration on how to cast from life. Lifecasting is a sculpture fundamental, using alginate and plaster to make a three-dimensional reproduction of your hand, foot, or other body part. This demonstration requires no previous experience, and materials are provided. Make sure to wear work clothes. This session is limited to 30 people.

Design Tips for Better Art

The fastest way to turbocharge the impact of your artwork is to use a few, simple design tricks. Join artists and professors Olivia Both and Lisa Diane Wedgeworth for this demonstration for using fundamental design principles to give your artwork a boost. No experience is required. If you're an established artist, bring your favorite materials. If you're a newcomer, use ours.

A Quick Introduction
to Watercolor
Thursday, December 1st from 7 to 9 pm

Everyone loves the speed, ease, and effect of watercolor, and it's the perfect material for both beginning artists as well as advanced painters. Join artist and professor Craig Attebery as he gives a quick introduction to watercolor and demonstrates how to integrate wet media into all of your art activites. No experience is necessary. Use our materials.

A Quick Introduction
to Handbuilding in Clay
Thursday, December 8th from 7 to 9 pm
Studio: Tongva 109
GCC's Ceramics program is one of the most established in Los Angeles and has been active for over 30 years. Join artist and professor Biliana Popova as she demonstrates the possibilities of working in clay via handbuilding. The session is free, but limited to 24. Wear work clothes and be prepared to get hands-on. Materials are provided.
