A Christmas letter
1 Timothy 1:15-17 Here is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance: Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners of whom I am the worst. But for that very reason, I was shown mercy. So that in me, the worst of sinners, Christ Jesus might display his immense patience as an example for those who would believe in him and receive eternal life. Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen.
Truth. What is your source of truth? Does it come from the news? Does it come from the local coffee get together? Science? Facts? Only what you can see with your eyes? Is truth based on each person’s individual feelings about an issue? Is there absolute truth? Or can the truth morph and change and apply differently to each person based on what they deem is right and good for them?
John 14:6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
John 17:17 Sanctify them in the truth; your Word is truth.
Psalm 25:5 Lead me in your truth and teach me, for you are the God of my salvation; for you, I wait all the day long.
John 1:14 And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen His glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.
The bible has quite a lot to say about what truth is. Indeed the Word of God is our only credible and authoritative source of truth. Jesus himself, the Word who became flesh, He is truth.
I don’t know about you, but I myself spend far too much time listening to sources that do not come from God. And when I do that, life gets almost impossible to navigate, and each step is treacherously shaky and uncertain and ready to give way. “Therefore, everyone who hears these words of Mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house; and yet it did not fall, for its foundation had been built on the rock. Everyone who hears these words of Mine and does not act on them will be like a foolish man who built his house on sand. Matthew 7:24-26
1 Samuel 2:2 No one is holy like the Lord, for there is none besides You, nor is there any rock like our God.
Psalm 18:2, David called God “my rock, my fortress, and my deliverer, my strength in whom I will trust; my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.”
“For no other foundation can anyone lay than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ.” When we recognize Jesus as Messiah and Savior, we place our lives on Jesus, the rock of our salvation.
Christmas is about Jesus the Messiah, God incarnate, who came into this world to seek and save lost sinners like me! He is the Prince of Peace, Lord of Lords, and King of Kings. He is our Wonderful Counselor, the Light of the world, Immanuel God with us. And how did He save us? By the shedding of His blood on the cross. He took all our shame and our guilt, and He bore the wrath of God for our sins. He suffered and died on the cross in place of you and me and every single person from Genesis to 2020 and for every person yet to be born! For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. Take that 2020! Christmas is not canceled.
TRUTH: Jesus came for YOU. He came to bring you hope and a future with Him in Heaven for all eternity. He came to give you His peace that surpasses all understanding! Forgiveness through His perfect and complete sacrifice of love. He showed up then, He is with us now, and HE IS COMING BACK! Praise God! Praise the Lord Jesus Christ! He is the rock of my salvation, the way, the truth, and the life. Believe in Him and be saved this Christmas. John 8:32 And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” To God, be the glory. Amen.
