I found that a Chrome extension I had was causing the built in scanner to fail. DarkReader modified the background of the page to a dark colour, which apparently caused the WhatsApp QR scanner to fail.

Secondly, I have restarted the phone none worked, same issue not working. Thirdly, I have switched off the phone & again start, nothing worked out. Fourthly, I have tried using my corporate number and the QR scanner started in a micro second in WhatsApp Web.

- It took me a few minutes to realise that it was a fake website because I was on a Windows based computer and the operating system on which the qr code linked me to was a Mac system (shown on Whatsapp on my phone).

Okay, so currently Whatsapp web is working with both the add-ons active. Sometimes it opens perfectly but sometimes there is a delay. Like it loads for 1 minute before opening the page. I disabled both the add-ons but did not see any changes in the behaviour.

Thank you for swift reply. I just downloaded the Betaversion and deleted the old whatsapp. Nothing changed, it`s still not working, the scanner does not work for Whatsapp web. It`s a big problem since most of communication is going through whatsapp now..

The Beta version of whatsapp is the Italian version and not available in our country. yet others report that they still have the same issue. the problem is defiantly with the camera and its numerous attempts to refocus to scan.

Microsoft just released a new camera app for those on fast ring. it should be worth a try on web whatsapp page..

Linking a new whatsapp web device by scanning the QR-code on the computer screen (Firefox browser on Pop OS LINUX) is not working.
