Multiple families in the Gaza Strip are asking for help through online crowdfunding platforms.
What do these people and their families use the funds for? Many of these families want to leave the Gaza Strip and/or pay for health care, medicine, basic necessities and other expenses. Unfortunately, to inssure an adult can be authorized to leave Gaza Strip (there is only one Egyptian travel agency that has a monopoly on issuing travel permits) the price is between $5000 and $7500, and half that for children under 16. This justifies why some families will need thousands of dollars to secure their authorized exit.
The purpose of these campaigns is always quite clear and many of the families provide information in great detail. There are also funding campaigns for farming groups and other collectives that provide food, shelter and other basic necessities. It's understandable that for those of you who do want to help, reading these reports and finding out more about what's happening in Gaza directly causes a lot of sadness and anger that can potentially cause a paralysis of choice: realising that there are so many people in such a shocking situation and having difficulty deciding which ones to help first or, having limited resources, which to help at all. But that's the point. Even €5 given to a random campaign is already a valid contribution because if we continue to raise awareness, at the very least spreading this information around the world, we are not only creating collective political awareness that can influence decision makers and others in higher positions of power, but we are also making an essential and immediate contribution to helping specific people.
When detail isn't abundant, it's because individuals fear for their safety in sharing too much personal information.
These people use GoFundMe in particular, which is an American platform which has very low fees and doesn't take any deductions from the money raised whatsoever, also being unique because one doesn't have to raise the entire amount requested in order to benefit from whichever amount was raised. You can install the GoFundMe application and, if you want, contribute to various campaigns completely anonymously.
On the link for each campaign there is a Donate Now button which, even without creating an account, allows you to choose an amount to donate to the creator of the campaign, there is the possibility of choosing an amount (which can be 0) to pay to the platform (GoFundMe, by not charging money to those running the campaign, makes its profit by asking for an optional extra tip on each contribution), and you are asked for your payment details (although it is safe to do so, you can always use a prepaid or virtual card, free of charge for example via MBWAY) and to Donate Now to finish the donation. See an example of the interface below.
