The Gaylord Opryland has a very big impact on the area surrounding it. Originally the Opryland was built next to an amusement park that went out of business. Now a days a large shopping mall called Opry Mills has opened up next to the Resort.

November 1977: The opening of the Opryland Hotel [8]
1980's the hotel expanded its property and added more hotel rooms [8]
1996: The opryland Hotel was able to aquire an additional 4.5 acres of land. Doubling the amount of land that they had previously. On the new land the Opryland hotel added over 1000 more rooms along with a ballroom and 10 meeting rooms. [8]
2010: A large flood in Nashville forced the Opryland to close as water levels rose over 10 feet in some areas of the hotel. After the hotel was fixed and rebuilt they added 5 new restaurants to the resort. [8]
